    Hard but Rewarding Work

    Staff (Current Employee)
    Iowa City, IA

ProsI work in the Restore and I love helping customers and talking to donors and getting to know the people in the community. Its really great hearing about the store's role in people's lives.

ConsIts very physical work and can be very exhausting. The store is understaffed and it can get hectic and backed up very quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more full-time staff.

Feel good work, poorly run business model

    Financial Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsYou're doing work that helps responsible lower income people.

ConsThe company is kind of stuck in the dark ages, in many ways. They don't have modern HR processes.

ProsIf you are self-directing, many opportunities to grow personally and professionally by developing new skills.

Conslittle training, poor communication between upper management and workers, little mentoring.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to create an inclusive environment for all, not just staff members. Invest more time and resources in training AmeriCorps VISTA members so we can better accomplish our objectives.

ProsThe employees at Habitat for Humanity in Gardena, CA are helpful in teaching me skills in accounting. This Habitat for Humanity location is not far from my home.

    A life-changing time

    Volunteer (Current Employee)
    Everett, WA

ProsI think the best reason to work there is the feeling of accomplishment that you receive as you build homes to help people in need. Definitely would do again if I had the chance.

ConsI can't say there was anything really bad about it. Sometimes things were a little dis organized, but overall it was a great experience working and volunteering there.
