I worked at Halfords part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great teamwork ethic, enjoyable work. Good opening hours over weekend and discount scheme. Cycle to work scheme very good and opportunity to progress.

    Cons

Low pay considering what is expected of you. High work load at holiday seasons so therefore long hours. Often unappreciated by management, do not partake in any refit of stores. Long hours and very unappreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Different pay scales for different sections of staff

I have been working at Halfords full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots to learn training is great when it's given.

Great team attitude, colleagues enjoy hitting kpi targets and are motivated in doing so.

    Fun environment

    Good colleague discount

    Cons

    Expected to work unpaid hours

Not enough opportunity to "climb the ladder" from within

H&S too relaxed better since revision 2014 but still too many injuries

    Very short staffed

Pay could be a lot better for the skills we acquire

Management told without much notice when required to up and change store, often against there wishes

Bonus scheme terrible since revision only a bonus for higher waged colleagues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assistant managers are brought in from other companies too often. Suitable candidates within the company too often ignored

Pay needs review. minimum wage creeping up upon lower management wages.

Store managers occasionally expect colleagues to stay on past their shift without pay.

I have been working at Halfords

    Pros

Forward looking, innovative. Working very hard at trying to make it a fun environment to work in. Fast moving, engaging

    Cons

Retail is not for everyone and with over 400 stores and a sizeable Support Office, it is not easy to achieve consistency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep believing in what you are trying to achieve, even when times are challenging

I have been working at Halfords full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to advance within management quickly.

    Cons

Very tight base hours for stores meaning lack of colleagues in shops for service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Halfords needs to let their managers manage their teams in store. By building them into the rota and tightly controlling their base hours and head count means this is an incredibly fast pace, stretched team with very little time left for management to spend on their people. My biggest concern is that Halfords wants to be recognised as one of the leaders in customer service and has shown progression in this however, there needs to be more people on the ground to deliver great service and this is at the moment the single greatest issue.

I have been working at Halfords full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

good hours, nice staff and most of the time a good environment to work in

    Cons

undecided pay and have not yet revived the correct pay for 8 months, im a cytec two mechanic and part timers get paid more than i do, all of which are below 18.....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

need to sort hourly rates, make sure staff are paid correctly. i like working for the business but am considering leaving due to the excessive time it has taken to sort my pay out. 8 months is a bit of a long time to offer fake promises.

I have been working at Halfords

    Pros

Good team members. Everything else bad

    Cons

Everything, terrible pay to do the things you have to do,
Bend over backwards for customers yet they still treat you like a piece of dirt, expected to work for nothing,
Hardworking people do not get recognised,
Only promoted if you snub up to area manager
Cone to work everyday hating the place
Part time people who have had a passion for cycling have left hating it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Better pay.
    Treat staff better
Defend staff when customers are wrong

I worked at Halfords part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Got to do a number of jobs around the shop, in my 9 months I was trained to do almost everything when initially brought on as a cashier
A nice environment to work in on the most part

    Cons

forced to hassle customers too much, many customers want to just come in for a browse
7 hour a week contracts with no guarantee of overtime meant that often I would have been better off not working
Did not assist with transferring to another store when moving to another area

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

use the brand more effectively in the aftermarket parts segment. The 'max power' days are gone but the aftermarket parts segment is booming, if upgrades such as suspension systems were sold I can see it being very beneficial to the company.
