Pros
I worked for Halliburton for a long time and enjoyed most of it.
Cons
Little family life, Through God's grace and a wonderful wife we managed to keep the family together. I left recently because the smaller PSL VP's are finger puppets to the pumping PSL's and it is progressively getting worse. I did not like the change I saw coming and rather than cry about it I found another job. Very political at corporate level.
Procurement department has ZERO since of where their paycheck comes from. Totally detached from the field and the urgency of parts needed to do work. Always an excuse as to why something is not available.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people and give pay increases because people can do there job not because they can stand in front of an audience and talk abiout something they read.
Pros
The working environment is laid back. My manager listens to what I have to say and I learn a lot from her.
Cons
There is a lot to do, and sometimes it can get a bit much. On the other hand manager recognizes our efforst and tries to compensate our time.
Advice to Senior Management
You are doing well with communication changes to the organization.
Pros
very solid company. This company has been around a long time they know what they are doing and is a great company to work for
Cons
if you are lower on the end as skilled workers don't plan to have the same experience you would have as senior level executives
Advice to Senior Management
Look for more balance
Pros
Good money, nice facilities, good benefits
Cons
The people, the culture, the history.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer praise where praise is due. Don't try to intimidate people into performing. Create a team atmosphere. It's a novel idea, I know.
Pros
I was able to learn everyday, I was exposed to many different people from many different areas and had the ability to show how competent and confident I was in my work.
Cons
The inability to work with employees on specific circumstances because of corporate propaganda with the rules and regulations in their handbooks. However, I cannot, and will not let my own negative experience with one situation darken my whole outlook.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not let moral indecision justify or rule the way that you lead your employees or fellow co-workers into victory in the industry.
Pros
a good salary, the job is not difficult
Cons
the management doesnot care of their engineer, they only think to keep their jobs
Advice to Senior Management
Change the style or the company will go down
Pros
it is easy work for what it is
Cons
if your moving from a different city and are staying in a hotel pack light. they expect you to check out of your hotel that your supposed to get for 30 days when you go out on the field so unless you feel like hauling everything around with you leave it in the city your coming from
some employees expect the new hires to know how to do everything their first day
Advice to Senior Management
inform people exactly what the deal is before they sign up.
Theres too many surprises in the beggining that seem to only cost the new employees money they dont have
Pros
Good (not great) pay
Good benefits
Good work-life balance
Some smart and organized folks work here
Senior management did some good things during downturn
Cons
Unclear mission as a corporation
On the working level this translates into confusion
Lack of accountability in many areas
When I leave at night, I say to myself, "Eh. It's a job."
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate goals and objectives that translate into details better. You all should focus less on monthly/quarterly financial goals and more on years/decades of growth ahead.
Pros
Opportunity to grow and excel
Cons
Long hours, all risks associated with oil field work
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the spirit of Earl P alive.
Pros
lots of chances to travel all over the world and given time to explore the countries, easy work, fun people
Cons
Definitely a good old boy system and a lack of accountability. Depending on the job you will work long hours and Saturdays will be a thing of the past
Advice to Senior Management
move quicker on promised promotions, look internally more
