Pros
Good money if you work consistantly
Cons
No money when there's no work, get paid only when you work in the field
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your people happy, train the less experienced managers to interact with employees. Pay them their dues.. Without these skilled employees go's group will not make a single penny!
Pros
+good pay for an intern
+lots of friendly and knowledgeable engineers
+you are given lots of responsibility and work on real projects
Cons
-It is a large company, so everyone is often busy doing there own thing.
-It can be hard to work on a project because you'll have to stop and wait on somebody or some equipment that is being used.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to do more to build the relationships between employees and make people feel that their contributions really matter.
Pros
Upward mobility
Global Presence (and international opportunities)
Development opportunities
Cons
Long work hours
Bureaucratic environment
Matrix organization
Advice to Senior Management
Alignment of strategies globally and across functions (e.g. Supply Chain vs. Operations, Districts/regions vs. Corporate)
Pros
stable work place, pay is ok
Cons
travel alot and have to wait on reimbursements
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
You learn a lot about the oil service which can be good on your resume
They do lots of training
Good experienced people
Different product lines means room to move around within the company
Cons
Supply chain was not the best place to be in
Pay is not at par with the industry
The HMP program is a disaster
Some vindictive managers made it to the top by stepping on good people
Medical benefits are compared to what small machine shops offer
Advice to Senior Management
Try to hold on to your people. It is a shame that you spend so much money and effort on people then they jump ship the minute they are ready.
Pros
I worked for Halliburton for a long time and enjoyed most of it.
Cons
Little family life, Through God's grace and a wonderful wife we managed to keep the family together. I left recently because the smaller PSL VP's are finger puppets to the pumping PSL's and it is progressively getting worse. I did not like the change I saw coming and rather than cry about it I found another job. Very political at corporate level.
Procurement department has ZERO since of where their paycheck comes from. Totally detached from the field and the urgency of parts needed to do work. Always an excuse as to why something is not available.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people and give pay increases because people can do there job not because they can stand in front of an audience and talk abiout something they read.
Pros
Excellent career path for those whom are motivated to move upward. Very nice people to work with and want to do an excellent job to succeed. Very proactive in accomodating work life balance. Safety is stressed in everything they do.
Cons
Communications between divisions are political at best.
Advice to Senior Management
Enable cross functional activities to better utilize assets in a customer focused approach.
Pros
Good money, nice facilities, good benefits
Cons
The people, the culture, the history.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer praise where praise is due. Don't try to intimidate people into performing. Create a team atmosphere. It's a novel idea, I know.
Pros
They give you a lot of responsibility.
If you have a good boss, he will give you goals and objectives and allow you to use your own initiative to acheive them.
They have some of the best people in the world.
Cons
They provide "social promotions" to some executives to give them experience in areas that they know nothing about. If your manager changes he is probably going to bring in people who support him unconditionally and change out the existing people who might challenge him.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand what the people under you really do. Don't assume what qualifications are really required to do a job well until you understand what that job requires. Don't promote people into positions who don't have the right background or leadership qualities needed for that group to excel.
Pros
Very competitive pay.
Open work environment- core hours with flexible hours of staying later or coming in early.
A large variety of positions.
Cons
This refers to IT Management:
Lack of leadership and communication.
No vision as to what the IT organization should be.
No accountability.
Unrealistic expectations about how teams can work.
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out what IT should look like and communicate it to the whole organization.
