Current Employee – been working at Hallmark Rehabilitation as a contractor for more than 7 years
Pros – Competitive pay and benefits. Approachable senior management. Geared towards technology. Free Online CEU's. Opportunity for career advancement. Flexible schedule and location. Up to date with Medicare changes with associated training.
Cons – High productivity set by DORs because this company rewards big income facilities who then has to resort to fraudulent practices. High therapist and DOR turn-over rate in our area. Anybody can be a DOR as long as they can schedule RUG minutes and make facility earn $$$.
Advice to Senior Management – Be ethical. Walk your talk. Don't just look at the numbers. This is the reason why Hallmark is losing quality therapists. Listen to your therapists! Do not tolerate fraudulent practices. A therapist CANNOT be 100% productive any way you see it. That would mean as soon as the therapist clocks in they are already seeing a patient until all they way when they clock out non-stop. That would also mean the therapists are not taking their 2x 15 min break working 8 hrs as mandated by law. Also, the DOR bonus system is flawed. It shouldn't be based on $$$ alone because it is = keeping the patients longer than what is needed, high RU RUG utilization regardless of need, and extremely high productivity for staff therapists so that the DOR can have some admin time.

Current Employee – been working at Hallmark Rehabilitation full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – competitive salary for geographic region
Cons – poor senior leadership team with unrealistic and unsustainable business model. Everything is budget driven, versus patient driven. Overextended and decentralized company with poor control over non owned contract facilities. Medicare changes upcoming will likely drive this stock price down so low that the company will be forced to file chapter 11 or be acquired by a competitor. Beware of puechasing stock in this fiasco.
Advice to Senior Management – Have business people run the company instead of old therapists that haven't practiced in ages.

Current Employee – been working at Hallmark Rehabilitation full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – good people to know and work with in our department
Cons – It's all about the productivity. Inappropriate patients and those that don't want therapy are still kept on to maximize reinbursement money. Registered therapists usually have no say in whether to discharge a patient.
Hours of seasoned staff are being cut to give new-hires and those on work Visa full-time. Senior staff have to cut their hours or flex to another facility; those on work Visa are protected because their contract guarantees them full time hours and only work at the one facility. Even though our facility has a low census, a full-time worker was hired, displacing a senior staff worker's hours. A per diem worker could have been used instead but we were told that wouldn't be "cost-efficient."
Advice to Senior Management – Take care of your loyal senior workers before they all leave for other companies

Pros – Although each worksite experience may vary somewhat based on the skills & experience of the DOR, the company core values are being extraordinary, doing the right thing, loving what you do, and making a difference. While recent CMS changes (Oct 2010 & Oct 2011) have drastically reduced reimbursment in SNF settings to rehab providers, Hallmark stands out as one of a few rehab companies who hasn't slashed salaries or employee wages. Instead of increasing productivity expectations they have tried to roll out additonal technology to make things more efficient. I like that I'm not ever asked to do anything unethical - and I've been pleased by all the clinical resources I have to make sure I'm the best therapist I can be.
Cons – In comparison to other industries our medical benefits seem to be a higher cost. But when I compare to what other therapists are having to pay for medical benefits it really isn't much different. IT connectivity has been a problem - probably due to rolling out so much all at once, but seems to be getting gradually better.
Advice to Senior Management – Consider changing IT providers if you have to in order to get all the connectivity issues fixed. Tell ROX to hurry up with the iPad app so we can have iPads. :-)

Current Employee – been working at Hallmark Rehabilitation
Pros – Decent benefits, good time off. You don't have to work weekends if you don't want to. Good training from individuals that come once in a while.
Cons – Poor communication, they treat the traveling therapists better than the staff therapists. Poor orientation and initiation into the company. Seems disorganized and they can't seem to retain staff at all. Been with the company a few months and already know of 4-5 people who have quit in that time just in our area.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat your staff therapists like you would actually like them to stay with the company and not leave after 6 months.
