I have been working at Hamilton College - New York part-time

    Pros

Plenty of on-campus jobs, easy to fit into your class schedule. Certain positions offer internship programs your senior year, which look great on a resume when you're trying to get a real-world job.

    Cons

Most jobs are barely above minimum wage, and dont really offer any opportunities to make more money. Also hamilton enforces a strict 20 hour per week maximum per student employee

I have been working at Hamilton College - New York full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Superb students. Magnificent physical plant. Skilled teachers focused on teaching. Need-blind admission covering full demonstrated need - serious about being a school of opportunity. Committed and generous trustees. Intimate and engaged community.

    Cons

Winters tend to be long. Support systems for multicultural and international students are developing and not fully in place.

I have been working at Hamilton College - New York as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The community is small, tight knit, lots of town traditions, and perks for working with the college. You'll meet lots of influential people and inspiring students. Work is meaningful with lots of freedom to have a work life balance.

    Cons

The college is very slow to change. They like reinventing the wheel when it comes to IT and tech platforms. It can be frustrating and challenging when your work must be done on a homegrown system.

I have been working at Hamilton College - New York

    Pros

Great work environment, motivated students, easy hours and good benefits.

    Cons

It is quite cold, but you get used to it and then when you return to anywhere south of Clinton, you really appreciate it.

I have been working at Hamilton College - New York part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are usually great. Will find very few who are unhappy to be there. As a lab consultant, there are many opportunities to be promoted!

    Cons

As a student, the pay is pretty poor and there are no opportunities to get benefits or increase compensation aside from working more. You can also end up with some crappy hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage students to care more, participate more, and give more to improve the efficiency of the whole place. There is much that management can learn form some students who are passionate to innovate.

A great student affairs environment to work in - if you don't mind the cold weather...

I worked at Hamilton College - New York

    Pros

As highly experienced staff and trained professionals I always knew that my supervisors had earned their positions in this field. Most had gone to Hamilton as undergrads while others had over 10 years of experience at this institution. They know what they are talking about. Listen to them.

    Cons

Because so many of the staff were also undergraduates there at one point there is definitely a sense of institutional "incest" when it comes to institutional policies - with outside viewpoints often taking a backseat. Be mindful of this when discussing university traditions. Also winter here is a nine month season. Be prepared for that.
