Pros
Payment is higher than average; lots of interesting projects; competitive benefits
Cons
Unstable market place in the region, terrible public schools; senior management changes their priorities several times per year, stressing workers, lowering effectiveness and creating unnecessary stress to employees. Many good and experience coworkers are leaving.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should identify obtainable goals at the beginning of the year and stick to those by properly flowing down the objectives of the year. Flip-flopping directions given to employees every quarter only generates unnecessary work to employees demoralizing the workforce.
Pros
Was a great job for me, steady work for many years. Fair treatment from management. Good feelings among coworkers. Large, reliable company.
Cons
Easy for some employees to get sort of lost in the huge organization and not
contribute as much as others. They are moving a large part of the business to
Russia because the costs will be so much lower there. Consequently there are
going to be some big layoffs. Probably me.
Advice to Senior Management
Convince upper management to stay in the USA.
Pros
Decent Salary
Excellent relocation package
Top-notch recruiting
Ability to work from home
Cons
Poor practice of business ethics and integrity with suppliers
High-pressure/Burnout environment
Lack of work/life balance
More work than you can ever complete/manage properly
Poor onboarding for new employees
Vague job expectations/goals
Too many layers of management
Too many meetings
Advice to Senior Management
Laying off people and expecting more out of the remaining employees does not work very well, even when you assure the remaining employees that job eliminations are finished.
Pros
- talented workforce
- flexible work hours
- good work/life balance
- decent benefits
- competitve salary
- Improving employee recognition program
Cons
- Top-down vs. bottom-up process development
- Less is more regarding staffing levels
- Too many "un-vetted" tools (related to bullet #1)
- Centralized (unresponsive) IT support
- Unempowered middle management
Advice to Senior Management
Employees have the answers - just ask thed right questions.
Pros
Most Hamilton Sundstrand 1st level managers seem to care about the employees. They receive input well and make wise, timely decisions.
Cons
Corporate decisions are made without consultation of front line employees (i.e. 1st level managers, lead employees, etc.) Corporate seems "lost" when it comes to making decisions to improve performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management and Corporate executives at Hamilton Sundstrand need to do a much better job at analyzing problems before make decisions as to what direction to take.
Pros
good benefits, good location, good operating system
Cons
No loyalty or respect what so ever to seasoned workforce due to constant management turnover the past 5 years. They broke spirited horses and lost site of the customer. They can blame the union all they want but it was corporate infiltration and the once size fits all attitude that brought down a good company and outsourced our jobs to Poland. Shame on you!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Too late - You can't see the forest for the trees. The majority of seasoned employees are leaving and the ones that are there are counting days until retirement. You blew it. Customers are not happy and your reputation is in the tank. Thanks for screwing up yet another american company. Good luck Poland.
Pros
interesting, good for relocation, great benefits
Cons
slow and boring, hard to advance
Advice to Senior Management
Perform more research and development
Pros
It had a great educational reimbursement program. I don't know if the program still operates the same. It used to provide you with live stock options.
Cons
It is a very large company. It seemed as though things moved pretty slowly. It is like being a very small drop in the bucket.
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest they get more face time and employee involvement. I was there for a while, but did not even know any management.
Pros
People are nice. Leadership team is very humane. Employee scholar program is attractive for those eager to learn more. Recognition is plenty.
Cons
Lack of regional opportunity and career advancement if you are in supportive group.
Pros
good place to learn as an intern.
Cons
no benefits for interns but you are an intern.
