    Pros

great company with exceptional benefits package that includes full tuition cost for degree programs and paid time off .

    Cons

Needs to be structured better so that there are so many levels to aquire change management initiatives. Communication gaps and response to requests needs improvement.

    Advice to Management

Lead with actions not words. Team building, knowledge sharing and learning focus would add value to organization and help workforce feel valued.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Pay, good Benefits, and a flat management structure means visibility to decision makers. Locations can be in lower cost of living areas, means you can live well outside work. Profitable business.

    Cons

Work life balance is in decline, constantly fighting fires, and perpetual under-staffing means you will be under pressure constantly and often struggle to see the light at the end of of the tunnel before another tunnel comes at you.

    Advice to Management

Focus on consistency in messaging and behaviors, look further down the road. Messaging about quality is equally important as making sure projects don't fall into bad places through short term decisions and have to take drastic action to recover schedule. We need to do both.

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent compensation for excellent performance. Great salary and health benefits. Great patent awards. Most managers have walked the walk and have a great understanding of technical principles. Schmooze factor is not as high as many other companies. Technically challenging products. Top line tools for engineering.

    Cons

Work load can be high if the customer focus demands. Travel to address or solve supplier issues can be excessive. Cost focus is at times too great and often at the expense of supplier quality. Schedules are often set too close allowing little time for testing. Research is minimal unless customer funded.

    Advice to Management

Be careful with all the contract labor as they will be working for the competition later. Spend some money on materials research, doing otherwise will place future products at a disadvantage. A little more accountability at the mid and senior level engineering positions is needed.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly interesting technologies make this an place exciting place to work. Co-workers are a cut above the norm.

    Cons

Working on government projects tends to obfuscate profit motivation and replace it with politics. This flows throughout the teams working on the projects. Government projects are subject to the whim of the Congress and the President. Funding is never certain.

    Advice to Management

Don't EVER refer to the company as 'Hamilton' by itself when talking to the Rockford employees! Use 'UTC' or something else.
