    Pros

They have an awesome Educational Program!
The size of the company lends itself to move into different roles between departments, not to mention the rest of UTC.
    Exciting Products!
Flex time available depending on your department culture.

    Cons

    Small Pay Raises!
    Poor Career Mapping
No annual Bonuses for non executive employees.
Not the best communications when non UTC employees know big news before you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retention Pay not on scale with market pay!

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very high-tech product. Huge diversity in job opportunity. Good benefits. Ability to move around within the UTC umbrella of companies.

    Cons

Not a lot of focus on work/life balance. With all the layoffs, older folks are squatting on jobs and make it difficult for the next generation to be promoted. Knowledge sharing is on a need-to-know basis. Performance reviews are less a measure of the employee and more a check in the box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try some one-on-one skip level meetings. Have opportunites where employees truly CAN exceed their PFT objectives, not just complete/incomplete....those are merely called job duties. I wanted to grow with the company, but when I put in extra effort/hours it became the new normal. Seek out those that are giving 110% and say thanks. I received more appreciation from our customer than our company.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good 401k (60% match).
    Good employee scholar program
Ability to move between different companies

    Cons

You are a number, and if they need to change something to satisfy Wall Street, and you happen to come through their filtering process, you will be let go.
The HR organization is not adequately trained. Most of the work is being offloaded to 3rd parties that truly do not care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the employees are people that take a lot of pride in what they do and they want to contribute to the company.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My hard work was recognized and rewarded. Recieved promotions and merit raises consistently.

    Cons

One's personal life was disregarded. Every employee expected to be a yes man and do whatever it takes to get the job done. This meant working long days, weekends, holidays etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work with employees for extended hours. Offer some paid overtime. Offer compensation for working on the weekends.

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

    Everyone is really nice
    Great salary
You get to work on real tasks and projects and learn systems
They make sure interns have a lot of social events to meet other interns and grow networks
Open line to talk to upper management
Give you lots of help and guidelines when completing tasks
They reward you and acknowledge you for your hard work
If you make a good impression during the internship, getting into the FLP is much easier

    Cons

8 hour work day, which is obvious
Cubicle setting, working on a computer
It can be kind of dull

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

It is a very well established company, being party of UTC. There is a huge, huge number of different projects available to work on.

    Cons

Most people have been there for 20+ and the projects are not very fast paced so it might be a little slow for those just getting out of college.

Current Intern - Supply Chain Intern in Windsor Locks, CT

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The company pays very well, has perks, and has tons of room for growth opportunities. UTC is such a massive company that you cant help but to find a division you want to work for between all of their subsidiaries. The internship program is outstanding. The experience you gain truly will be the difference maker between you and another candidate for an open position. Cant rave about the internship program enough. If you work hard, you'll be recognized

    Cons

If you want to stay ahead of the game and do a thorough job on your assignments, you need to put in the time. You'll be working over 40 hours a week (i think OT is paid for full timers but not 100%.) Assignments can be overwhelming

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix up the HR side of Hamilton. They frequently screw important things up that have serious consequences.
