    Pros

Hammacher Schlemmer has been in business since 1848, so it's nice to have the security of a company that has been in business so long. The company is employee owned and annually shares profits with all employees. In particular, I like that the company is small enough that I can see the impact I make on a daily basis.

    Cons

I've worked for larger corporations in the past that had more impressive infrastructures. I miss some of those niceties at times.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in new technology and drive overall infrastructure improvements. Adjust marketing and product lines to expand the customer base.

    Cons

very old school style way of doing things. EEs and management stuck in the past.

    Pros

This is a small, employee owned company with a great history and reputation. The company is financially sound, and provides profit sharing to employees each year. There are many opportunities provided to employees who work hard, have great attitudes, and are successful in their roles. The company provides an on-site employee restaurant and fitness center.

    Cons

The company is small, with only three locations, which doesn't provide a lot of flexibility if you wish to relocate to another part of the country.

    Advice to Management

The majority of employees that work here are team players with cooperative attitudes; however, there are a few who are sometimes negative and can bring others down. Please recognize that an employee can be brilliant, but will add no value with a negative attitude. Continue to reward the hard-working employees with positive attitudes, and do not tolerate the rest.

    Pros

    - There are some very nice individuals who work here. - The pay is competitive. - Just started using a project management application which is helpful for staying on task of your duties and those involved in your projects. - Free soda and coffee in the fridge which is always stocked.

    Cons

    - Insurance doesn't kick in until 3 months on the job and you can't use dental for any procedures other then preventative care for 15 months. - They do not have their own HR team - Company owned, so it is run with very little resources to save money. - Employees who have been there a while are difficult to work with and lack necessary soft skills.

    Advice to Management

Take time to invest in new employees by spending time with them during the onboarding training. There is a lot of gossip from certain individuals which is negatively affecting moral.

    Pros

Nice coworkers, relatively good work/life balance (although work from home capabilities are very limited... but working more than 40 hours is never expected), relatively easy to get promotions & raises if you plot out a plan with your manager and stick to it, compensation/benefits are decent (minus no 401K matching, but new ESOP will allegedly make up for that)

    Cons

Company is run as if it's 1980 and catalogs are still the end-all-be-all of retail and the internet/Amazon don't exist, not much room for changing the business so every project is very status quo and work typically feels meaningless, management is very un-open to ideas that stray from past thought processes - if they suddenly seem open to a new idea it will be analyzed to death and no decision will ever be made, office sounds like a library (SO quiet), culture is very negative - friendships & fun moments within the workplace are seemingly frowned upon by upper management, very high turnover rate

    Advice to Management

The snarky side of me wants to say "I have a few things to say but they wouldn't listen anyway", but I digress... Stop being afraid of change, whether it's a new leadership style, embracing the future by becoming a true competitor both business model-wise and employer-wise, or trusting data. The world is changing every day and it's really sad that a company as cool as this one can't get on board with that.

    Pros

Does not charge employees for water from the water fountain. Has plenty of free parking for employees. Company issued computers were upgraded in 2012 to no longer have 3.5" floppy disk drives. Easy work. Easy paycheck. Convenient location to Golf Mill Mall. High ceilings in many areas of the building. There are many interesting personalities in the building. Book fairs and craft fairs are common events in the building.

    Cons

Contact the numerous former employees for information. The company's high employee turnover rate spans all levels of the company, from interns up to "Senior Staff". In 2014 employees have even resigned with no other job lined up.

    Pros

easy job and get to dress professionally

    Cons

This company is now a joke, it's not what it used to be eventhough upper management keeps trying to run and view things from the past. At this point they should close the retail store as the staff is low class and the store is not profitable anyway. The catalog is so outdated its ridiculous. There is no rhyme and reason to it; how do you put a pic of a $90k submarine next to a $99 sound machine? The layout makes no sense and confuses the customer. This is indicitive of every decision the VP's make. i.e nothing makes any sense with this company

    Advice to Management

The Hammacher name is gold. The old reputation was well respected. Get rid of the existing upper management and get some new blood in there or there won't be a future. Change is a positive thing. Also, stop making people work 11 hour days, it's not right. You only pay us for 40.

  9. An old catalog company that doesn't care to enter the modern day of commerce.

    Pros

Random product selection makes days different.

    Cons

Upper management is all over the place most of the time, but usually on the same page of not changing anything even when testing and analysis has proven things out. You'll waste a lot of time never really accomplishing anything.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to save this company. Price increases, expensive shipping, and turning a blind eye to societal changes are not going to let this place exist for much longer
