  1. Change is good however people feel they have to justify why they have a job a lot of the time.

    Pros

Good training, above average job security.

    Cons

Public services having to do more with less, over-stretched and over-stressed workforce leading to poor recruitment and retention.

    Advice to Management

Drop the financial incentives of the Valuing Performance appraisal process.

  2. HCC are a very supportive LEA with excellent facilities for supporting schools

    Pros

Good HR services (e.g. Payroll support, maternity pay) and employee support and local offices meaning you don't have to travel too far for courses. In-house training is excellent.

    Cons

    I don't have any cons

  3. Worst job I've ever had.

    Pros

    Friendly colleagues and nice location.

    Cons

I have a serious and debilitating health condition that I was made to feel guilty about and received no support for it at all. The work is not enjoyable and the pay is terrible. Any contact I had with with higher departments such as HR took laughably long amounts of time, especially when I had time constraints for the information I needed from them.

    Pros

Flexible working hours but depends on the job

    Cons

No motivation. Low pay. Lack of leadership in management. Useless people stay, useful people eventually leave.

    Advice to Management

Improvement of IPP process. Understanding that people are human beings not just units that can be moved around. Improving communication between managers and employees. Get rid of bottlenecks!

  6. Education services were well managed and supported my development

I worked at Hampshire County Council

    Pros

Good working hours, good people, filled a decent gap between university ending and 'real work' beginning. Good to see how decisions actually get made.

    Cons

Management have no real idea of what the people on the ground do every day. Aura of fear regarding current economic climate.

    Advice to Management

Reassure the staff in order to make them feel happier about their position. If someone has done a good job, let them know. Better exposure for junior staff to see promotional/development opportunities.
