Pros
Good company to work for. The atmosphere was conducive and allowed people to do their best. Great talent at Handleman.
Cons
Corporate strategy was Handleman's demise. Their strategy of being the last people in the distributing physical music (CDs) lead them to bankruptcy. It's a shame because so many talented workers.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice would have been to diversify their company portfolio. Senior management was too interested in their retirement versus doing what was right to change in the industry and to do what was right for their lifelong employees.
Pros
Great people, great environment. Loved working at my branch
Cons
The company is downsizeing and going out of business
Advice to Senior Management
Open up communications wider within the company, The biggest reason the company is having problems is that it seems to try and keep everything under the hat at corporate
Pros
Going to work every day and enjoing the work
Cons
Non, no complaints here at all
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
There are absolutely no pros to working for Handleman Company unless you are/were one of the chosen few. If so, you would be given "vice president" titles and obscenely disproportionate salaries based not on merit but on who you knew in the power seats.
Cons
No loyalty to employees
No upper management integrity
No career development program
Employee contributions not recognized or valued
No work/life balance
Poor benefits
Advice to Senior Management
Handleman needs to look at the damage they've done to hundreds of key employees by handing over the reins to the group from REPS LTD. The people who comprise upper management at REPS are a looked at with disdain by legitimate players in the industry and have run Handleman into the ground.
Pros
Great work employer, very supporting management, small company so lots of opportunities to work in other departments
Cons
Not very nimble. Hence good ideas are not picked and implemented quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more innovative managers into the ranks. There are lots people who have been working for years and seem to be out of ideas for the current business model
Pros
Fair to employees; Treated people with respect
Cons
Company has been disintermediated by trends in music distribution
Advice to Senior Management
Need to get out in front of industry trends that can affect long-term viability of company
