I worked at Hanesbrands as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good company culture
    Fair policies and procedures
Hard working but not over the top hours
Fridays OFF from Memorial Day thru Labor Day (work 40 hrs in 4 days) - GREAT!
Good products at a great low price
Products that are good value and well made.
Seem to pay pretty well amongst the market

    Cons

Not enough HR representation in the two NYC offices. As they are based in Winston-Salem.
Offices in NYC are not that big so growth inside the company is not really possible with most areas
Fast to hire freelance / reluctant to ever add to staff

I have been working at Hanesbrands full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They are very hands on and wants to be the best so they make sure you are the best. They focus a lot on increasing sales; as any retailer would. They communicate with you and seem to care about the opinions of those working in the stores.

    Cons

They need to definitely update POS registers. We just recently went from updated POS registers and systems from Maidenform to outdated registers with Hanes. It definitely took a while to get used to!

I worked at Hanesbrands full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company as whole is doing very well, even purchasing some of its competitors. The benefits for full time employees are decent. The pay for management is above the industry standard. The employee discount program is very generous. The mall location is new, and kept clean.

    Cons

Management is required to spend 99% of their time in the back office away from the sales floor. Procedures are very paper work heavy. Cash registers and computer systems run on DOS and are out of date. Training programs are in place for new hires but are rarely followed. The attendance policy is outrageous, one minute late counts as a tardy, three tardies is termination. Management is expected to be on call at all times, and is often expected to work six days a week. After two years of service managers are expected to relocate or are let go. Very high turn over in the NH locations!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The ACE training program needs to be followed, your employees are not getting the training that they need to succeed. Your long term employees are the back bone of your company, work on employee retention! Labeling long term employees as "blockers" is not the proper way to treat people!

I worked at Hanesbrands as a contractor

    Pros

Hanes compensation is very generous and the employees are wonderful to work with. I had a great rapport with my manager and fellow employees in the department.

    Access to 401K

    Cons

Most positions are classified as HBI Temp, so no company health benefits or paid vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take control of your Plus Size merchandise! Very few plus size stores actually carry merchandise that fits their customers. Reduce the neck line opening and pull up the shoulder seam. Offer longer lengths. I guarantee sales will dramatically increase!

I have been working at Hanesbrands

    Pros

Strong brands that are market leaders. With Maidendform acquisition there is a lot of growth potential. I anticipate more acquisitions in the future. The employees are all very nice and there seems to be a decent amount of career opportunities.

    Cons

Some of the people, processes, and products themselves are dated but I guess that's common with a manufacturing company. A lot of things are black & white and decision making power is held by the execs only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement change where needed and empower employees more to drive decisions. Be more proactive versus reactive to keep up with the ever changing consumer.
