They will mislead you in the position that you are hired. Only take a role in ISP if you are homeless!

I worked at Hanover Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get paid. Only take a role in ISP if you are homeless!

    Cons

-Highly unorganized -VERY unprofessional -Lack of technology advancement -Training for ISP is completely a waste of time - ISP IS 100% SALES (no customer service element) -ISP turn over rate is extremely HIGH. (70 to 80%) -billing is complex and unorganized. (No two people will come to the same answer) -not all call Centers take the same calls or licensed in all states that Hanover writes. -too many excel forms to fill out -Completely outdated technology

    Advice to Management

Revamp the ISP, have management classes to help the with their people skills. Customers should be first. Allow payments to post to the account real time not via batches. Also allow Dec pages to be available real time and not via batches. Develop user friendly workflow for the call center reps. Allow the ISP to write and bind all quotes. Combine ISP and Sales (no need to transfer a call). ***Too much passing the buck****** Please provide more accountably!*******

  2. Great Company for Some

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

The CEO is very knowledgeable about the insurance industry and really wants the company to provide the best products and services. The company pays good and has nice benefits. Depending on what department you are in, there can be a lot of different roles to move to.

    Cons

They are too focused on home office employees. There is not enough focus on providing the same opportunities for people in the field, like career growth and training classes. Not everything can be duplicated, but they could do better to make all employees feel included. It seems like men have a lot more opportunity than women. There are not many women leaders above middle management even though more women work there than men. Men move up a lot faster in the company. I think they are paid more than women too.

    Advice to Management

Managers need to learn how to communicate better. They have favorites and give them all of the opportunities. They should do more help the average employee learn new skills instead of writing them off as average.

    Pros

Overall pleasant place to work with some company perks (free lunches, book fairs, gifts, etc.). I also had a flexible (three, 12-hr. day schedule) which was nice -- but I'm not sure if it still exists.

    Cons

Pay was somewhat lower than similar companies (despite the claims of HR!). I also didn't feel there was much room for career growth.

    Advice to Management

    Offer better salaries!

It is hard to see how quickly you will advance in this company. There is a high turnover rate for actuaries.

I worked at Hanover Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very stable company. One of the leading competitors in their own industry. Upper management does a fine job keeping company profitable and successful.

    Cons

Moving up in the company is extremely difficult if you are not located at their head office in Worcester, MA. Some departments are split up in multiple cities, which makes it difficult to receive equal attention in areas of job performance review, office culture, upward opportunities, etc. Oftentimes, people are not recognized or even acknowledged for pulling the weight of several others.

    Advice to Management

More attention should be given to individual employees' efforts rather than departmental results as a whole.

I have been working at Hanover Insurance full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Hanover has made transformed itself in many ways, including improving its overall financial strength, but also as a company that attracts superior talent. I was able to develop my skills and experience considerably while there.

    Cons

As with many companies, work-life balance can be a challenge here. Departments can be somewhat understaffed, creating addition weight for incumbent staff. Compensation can be somewhat depressed compared to Boston.
