I have been working at Hanson

    Pros

Great culture / people. Innovative web dev agency. Valuable UX / UI strategy and engineers. Strong leadership with lots of experience. Limited capabilities to offer which often times leads to executional partnerships and unpredictable growth / rev stream.

    Cons

Limited offering which leads to unstable rev outlook.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Expand full-service digital offering into creative, media, and stronger brand planning to develop evergreen partnerships. Invest in talent and relationships to grow in offering.

I have been working at Hanson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Amazing people to work with
    - Tons of opportunity to grow and develop as a professional
    - Team never accepts "good enough", constantly seeking out new and better ways
    - Paid Vacations, Holidays
    - Parking lot party is the best!
    - Everyone really works hard to put out good products
    - Coffee, Snacks, Beverages
    - Greatly improved communication on company health over the past few years
    - Pay is fair
    - Flexible schedules, management is always very understanding and allows flexibility as long as you put in your 8 hours one way or another
    - They announced a plan for more obtainable profit sharing this year
    - Great culture and genuine core values
    - CEO is genuine and cares about the company and it's direction, genius level when it comes to business
    - There will be cake!

    Cons

    - Projects have increasingly unreasonable timelines this year making it harder to create high quality products for clients due to feeling rushed
    - Often times you feel setup to fail on projects because of timelines and lack of "resources"
    - Production team often has to put in tons of additional time to meet timeline promises just to feel like they're still behind (Imagine working every day of the week just to be told we need to "do whatever we can to put in more time")
    - Having to work weekends and "put in extra time" has become part of the "project plan" rather than something we do when needed to go above and beyond for clients
    - Department directors have to put in time producing products while also trying to manage projects, delegate, attend meetings and write estimates and proposals on the fly while simultaneously trying to get tight timeline projects in QA
    - A lot of shuffling people around from project to project, agreeing to tight deadlines and then throwing bodies at a project in the 11th hour isn't a "project plan"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Start paying more attention to morale, profit sharing is nice but not at the expense of working 7 days a week 10 hours a day.
    - Let department directors do what they do best, it's counter productive to consider them a "resource" on a project when there's far too much going on for them to spend the time needed to actually bill productive time to projects

I worked at Hanson as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

The people are very enjoyable and understanding. The work environment is fun, and many of the people there are definitely experts. A very flexible company that works on many different things. Can be fast paced, which I believe is a good thing.

    Cons

Many of the key employees get pressured with too much responsibility. Tech leads and other key players are forced to sacrifice too much work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work!

    Pros

    Awesome people
    Equipment Allowance
Lunch allowance and free lunch fridays
    Seminars
    Highly Networkable

    Cons

Salary, paid for working forty work hours, but it feels like your working all the time always.
Timelines sometimes unreasonable for strict deadlines, end up spending more time reporting time than doing work.
Not much else in terms of cons. Hanson Inc rocks entirely.

    I worked at Hanson

    Pros

Flexible working environment, very friendly management and staff, comfortable work campus, generous on-site benefits (free lunches, beverages, snacks). Willing to take risks to make clients happy.

    Cons

Poor client base, inability to make the leap to the next level of business in their environment, poor pay structure, insular upper management. Below-average traditional benefit package.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At some point, management has to either accept the fact that they will be a small agency, or be willing to look outside their walls to find people who can take them to that level.

I worked at Hanson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good salaries on offer for people with relevant skills & experience. High quality working environment, company is serious about environmental issues & H&S.

    Cons

There is currently a cost cutting program across the company including compulsory redundancies, affecting staff morale. In my department, management all seemed to know each other, and it was a bit of a closed shop for employees - who you knew was more important than what you knew.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to managing effects of cost cutting program. HR - promotion could be more about merit and less about connections.
