    Pros

Some of the brightest young minds. Very amazing work environment, those huge tuition checks pay for a ton of the latest technology, both for the students and staff. The Harker School has a lot of deals with outside organizations. You can get discounts at some places. Fairly good hours and pay if you are part-time. I can't speak to full-time.

    Cons

Sometimes very demanding. Kids can be brats sometimes, I know I was when I was younger. A very mild air of elitism and privilege is apparent throughout the corporation.

    Advice to Management

Make the Portal a little easier to use. As an employee one of the most frustrating things is the employee webpage that is used to enter in hours and any sort of paperwork.

    Pros

You get to work and meet a lot of Harker's talented students and parents, along with other good staff and faculty. Good experience working at a private school.

    Cons

Only worked as needed, and when there were speech and debate tournaments, schedules were long and went for hours on end, leaving little time for sleep or anything like that. No benefits for my particular position, and pay was minimum wage.

    Pros

Fun environment with great employees. Gave all staff free meals and worked with my school schedule. Most of the time I looked forward to going to work.

    Cons

Some times you have to work early in the morning. You have to deal with school politics at times which can get old. Parents will often get mad at you for no reason.

    Pros

Good work environment, free lunches, good amount of paid vacation/holidays/breaks.

    Cons

There's a pretty flat bureaucratic organization structure, which can be seen as a pro and con. Pro: freedom to be creative/innovative if you wish to be. Con: lack of career advancement opportunities, lack of standards, and too many people involved in the strategic decision making processes. Also, you don't get paid much, but that's normal for a school.

    Advice to Management

    Create, document and implement standards.

    Pros

Staff members, teachers were great to work with.

    Cons

Some parents could be hard to get along with. Some do what they want to do, esp because they pay alot of money to the school.

    Advice to Management

    Not much to do.

    Pros

Very good food as well as support for family

    Cons

Some of the employees are just there to make a few bucks i wish they were more involved and tuned towards the schools goals

some of the middle managers seem to have complete control and it should be more centralized i think

    Pros

    - fun environment - friendly co-workers - work with kids - growing experience

    Cons

    - little opportunity for increase in pay - parents high maintenance because they're paying so much, but it's crazy how much we have to bend over backwards to please these people

    Pros

The students are wonderful. They love school and it shows. There are very few classroom management issues. Excellent after school program with just about any activity or sport that a child could want to participate in. Teachers are great to work with. There is an excellent budget and plentiful resources. Professional development is required and you are encouraged to choose your own PD so teachers have the opportunity to attend at least one conference a year. Parents are very involved. Great school spirit! Wonderful access to technology.

    Cons

Harker is not a very progressive school. It takes time a lot of time to integrate change. There needs to be a better work/life balance for teachers and students.
