I have been working at Harmonic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The good thing about Harmonic is that you will do meaningful work and the compensation is decent and the benefits are good.

    Cons

The work life balance only works for a select few groups, which function like country clubs. Other groups are driven and the job seem like a treadmill. In addition, nobody can seem to plan more than four weeks ahead of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

First, fix the demand planning problem. Second, treat everybody more equally. If the company is facing hard times ahead, everyone one should be staying late and doing whatever is necessary to succeed.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice recently built facility and perks.

    Cons

Upper management has made bad decisions which has lost investors confidence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in house technology instead of acquiring other companies and hoping to increase revenue.

Still absorbing acquisitions, more big-company BS than the company size warrants

I worked at Harmonic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits. Relatively low stress. Generally a pretty safe corporate haven if that's what you want.

    Cons

Product confusion. Harmonic management is still figuring out how to absorb all the acquisitions of the last 5-6 years. This leads to the traditional center of Harmonic (in the Bay Area) feeling left out of the loop because they're in the minority now, while the satellite locations/ex-companies are all feeling out of the loop because of lack of direction/integration.

I worked at Harmonic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

company has weathered the ups and downs for a long time. People want to change and grow the business. Have brought on some great senior leaders from other companies in recent years.

    Cons

internal systems outdated, budgets restricted by sr mgmnt trying to keep stock price up. Most new sr. mgmnt is from Cisco, so turning into a Cisco style company with lots of process. lots of silos and no communication in different R&D sites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

go private or be acquired by another big player. spend some money on IT.

    I worked at Harmonic

    Pros

Can learn video and audio technologies; very knowledgeable and friendly colleagues; new building with gym and very good cafe.

    Cons

Struggling in business - projects were cancelled; aggressive management team; bad working environment: employees must find a way themselves to survive and fix tough problems.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Culture is good, collaborative, highly technical, while being reasonable and laid back as well.

    Cons

Mid-size company, too small and too big at the same time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at acquisitions with more ROI, and promote for leadership from within. Many people at Harmonic have been stuck in jobs for too many years. People can be shifted around and promoted to build skill sets and improve morale/alleviate boredom.

I worked at Harmonic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great people, wanting to succeed.

Big pool, and lots of sun shining!

    Cons

    Sharks in the water!

Opressive HR that only appears when the boss wants to "change" things. Creates toxic culture based on fear. Keeps people from taking risks. Also they play favorites, and it is a great place to work when you are one of them, not such a great place when you are not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change culture to support you best resource, your people. Employees dont like doing their job wondering if this is what will be the thing that gets them shown the door. Employees learn quickly not to believe what you say, but to watch what you do, because they dont line up well!
