I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cafeteria meals are $3, nice gym in building if your ever allowed to go....building is very clean and health care benefits are good also.

    Cons

Unpredictable company financially unstable, management is rude and unprofessional. CFO should take the time to look into the type of management they have by meeting with the employees that do all the work. Working here is like walking on egg shells everyday. they will work you and put pressure on you to the max and never appreciate you when you do well. It's never enough even if you meet and exceed the goal assigned to you quarterly.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect and professionalism and stop the micro managing.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Nice, clean, and modern office. Cool product. New building was a great move. Co-workers and colleagues were solid.

    Cons

Politics unfortunately deteriorated morale. Company financial performance has not been good. Employees appear to be turning into "just a number."

    Advice to Management

Moving to a nice new building doesn't automatically mean the company has jumped to the next level. Growing into a mature, healthy, solid company takes time. People first (and not just lip service) is a great place to start.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Technology Leaders, Track-record of Limited Success, willing to supersede their success to get to the next level. Sound senior executive leadership. Good company values.

    Cons

Needs better focus. Diverse portfolio puts resource demand high and move competition for resources slightly beyond the right balance.

    Advice to Management

Develop the right senior relationships at your suppliers to get beyond mid-level managment to being a stratgic partner that turns $10 million into $100 million and $50 million into $200 million.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment, company events, great HR staff

    Cons

Like other companies, the chance to excel takes a lot of effort and time

    Advice to Management

Compensate interns a bit more, provide programs for them

I worked at Harmonic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere. People were very friendly and the cafeteria was awesome and inexpensive. Policies for full timers seemed to be great however I was a contractor and wasn't under the same plan. Compensation was great as a contractor and I believe full timers were paid well also. Was a good experience while it lasted.

    Cons

Would have been nice to have more communication with my boss. I can only assume I did a good job however the project ended early but I got everything and more done I was suppose to.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with contractors and communicate. Don't dangle a carrot of FT employment if you're only going to keep them for a short term project.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice recently built facility and perks.

    Cons

Upper management has made bad decisions which has lost investors confidence.

    Advice to Management

Invest in house technology instead of acquiring other companies and hoping to increase revenue.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The good thing about Harmonic is that you will do meaningful work and the compensation is decent and the benefits are good.

    Cons

The work life balance only works for a select few groups, which function like country clubs. Other groups are driven and the job seem like a treadmill. In addition, nobody can seem to plan more than four weeks ahead of time.

    Advice to Management

First, fix the demand planning problem. Second, treat everybody more equally. If the company is facing hard times ahead, everyone one should be staying late and doing whatever is necessary to succeed.

    Cons

Too beholden to the largest customers.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Relatively low stress. Generally a pretty safe corporate haven if that's what you want.

    Cons

Product confusion. Harmonic management is still figuring out how to absorb all the acquisitions of the last 5-6 years. This leads to the traditional center of Harmonic (in the Bay Area) feeling left out of the loop because they're in the minority now, while the satellite locations/ex-companies are all feeling out of the loop because of lack of direction/integration.
