The co workers and direct management
Cons
The company has become cheap. Always cutting corners

Don't cut to many corners for you are running away your customers.
Pros
Depending on which department you work in, you get to travel and tuition reimbursement is offered.

You can easily get "black-balled" within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider a more balanced approach to promoting employees.
Pros
The environment was more exciting than most office jobs since it is a casino. The fountain drinks were free to employees.
Cons
I did not enjoy working at Harrah's. The lunch room allowed people to smoke, it was disgusting. The work was not challenging.
Advice to Senior Management
Remove smoking acccess in the lunch room it was disgusting. The work was not challenging enough. You should review your employee's abilities more often to ensure their talents are being utilized.
Pros
No Pros to commet on.
Cons
They hire management with no experience, Quad druple your responsibility when the have downsized and you have to" mandatory" voluteer in other departments either on your day off or work longer hours to cover events or positions they have downsized in. No pay increase in three years not even cost of living through the recession.
Advice to Senior Management
Downsize senior management. Hire experience front line employees and get rid of the CSA scores. Anyone can manipulate numbers to look good.
Pros
If you want to work 2 people's job, and gain experience / exposure 3 times faster, and move on to a higher position else where.
Cons
Treatment from management can be on case-by-case basis. For average gaming employees, mostly will be hourly; for corporate, not every department work the reward the same way
Advice to Senior Management
Emphasize professionalism and try to attract top talents from more than just Vegas, once you get them, leverage bigger picture views beyond gaming / gambling industry ...
Pros
They pay better than anyone in the industry.
Stock options for some mgmt.
Huge bonuses.
Great place for people without a degree to advance, MBA's can be VPs quickly.
Cons
Lot's of line level employees can make it feel like working at your local mall.
Very aggressive when it comes to financial discipline (layoffs happen by the droves).
Prepare to live in a podunk town.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at other industries and learn some new best practices. Harrah's isn't as far in front of the pack as it used to be.
Pros
A good place for MBAs to start
Cons
Long hours, pockets of poor midlevel management
Advice to Senior Management
Better human resources training for sales management teams
Pros
Good pay
Good Benefits
Good Managers ( My Department anyway)
Good work life balance
Cons
Cut throat, hostile employees who will throw you under the bus any chance they can get
People taking credit for their peers work
Management takes a head in the sand approach to this
Lack of recognition for some employees
Too much focus on what MGM is doing and trying to copy it
Advice to Senior Management
Recognition for everyone involved
Take plagiarism seriously
Stamp out the cut throat culture and foster cooperation instead of competition
Don't do it, just because MGM is doing it
Pros
Many opportunties to move around, and travel. Pay is good once you reach Manager positions and above. Largest gaming company in the world-attiude of working for the best in the field.
Cons
Long hours put in for nothing. Little to no work -life balance. MBA driven and run...poorly! Little concern and respect given to experience. More attention give to education. The more recent the MBA, the larger the title and salary. Textbook teaches nothing about the industry. Experience is key. Senior Management are over paid, given too many benefits, too much respect, and are not trust worthy leaders. Senior Management is also very clicky. High school environment. Development of staff is weak and hardly give attention/focus.
Advice to Senior Management
Quote: "People want a grounded employer. They want a employer that's going to be responsible to them." Carl Paladino
Pros
Ability to transfer to another casino for a job.
Cons
The hours are uncommon and holidays off r hard to come by.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on training supervisors correctly, most lack an understanding of business.
