I have been working at Harrison Clark full-time (more than 3 years)Pros
Managers are very loyal - once you've earned their respect they will accommodate things like years out and leaving early for things if they possibly can. If you perform well the firm will look after you.
Regular promotions - once you're a solicitor can expect to be associate within 3 years.
Good prospects in that the firm is expanding, so there is scope to reach partner level.
Bonuses are given to whole firm when it does well - e.g. £50 M&S voucher to all staff including support staff one Christmas.
Investor in People status - regular appraisals, performance reviews, etc.
Performance-related bonuses also available, including very occasionally to non fee-earning staff.
Good team to work in, nice atmosphere, friendship and cooperation between departments.
Good exposure - medium size firm, not too big that junior employees get stuck permanently doing rubbish work, yet big enough that there's a variety of work.
Reasonably good pay once you move up from trainee/paralegal level.Cons
Trainees and paralegals are low paid considering that they are expected to work as long as it takes to get work done.
Trainees and paralegals can be expected to work from around 8.30 until 6.30 on average.
Solicitors are also expected to work until work is done.
Once you become an associate you will have more chance of being able to leave work at a reasonable time (unless you're in the corporate department!) however you are expected to have a work blackberry and therefore don't really escape work.
If your performance isn't satisfactory you will be rooted out, sometimes ruthlessly!Advice to ManagementAdvice
