They only care about metrics for their clients, not their employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsOn site decent break area & food truck. You don't get fired unless you do are a consistant underachiever. They do care about helping charities.

ConsEverything is always a battle. They don't care to dig down and understand what the employees are doing to help the client. Its all about how many calls you made. Quantity over quality. They micro manage and report to death. Low pay to be treated like a number, not a human being.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf your going to treat your employees like children at least pay them better that what you consider "market" price.

Hands Off Management, Expect to work on your own and rely outdated resources.

Social Media Support Agent (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsThe people on my team and client account were great to work with.

    ConsLow Pay
    Average benefits
    Hard to gauge performance
    Bad time keeping system
    Old office
    Dead end job
    Hands off manager

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen lines of communication between employees, management and HR. Offer better compensation packages in order to hold on to talent.

Horrible place to work. Good luck escaping

    Tech Support Representative (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsWorked for almost a year. Horrible benefits, management, etc. The only pro is sometimes they leave the doors unlocked and you can escape!

ConsLow pay, bad benefits, absent management. You name it, harte hanks has it. I'd avoid this place like the plague if I were you

Good for entry level customer service experience

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsSteady hours and pay, there are some good people that work there. Professional environment, good trainers. Location in Austin is pretty nice. If you are looking for a decent job to start out with getting experience it is a good place for it.

ConsNot a lot of room to advance, pay is on the low end of customer service jobs. When I worked there they did not give raises. Wouldn't recommend as a career choice as the options to move up are few and far between.

It's not hell, but you can see it from there...

    Account Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsNot bad if you want a job that you won't care about or just need entry level customer service experience.

ConsThe company does not care about it's employees, customers, or partners. Employees at anything under the upper management level are treated like morlocks. They will expect you to choose the companies goals over your family, education, children, safety, or health. Pay is well below average for most positions, especially considering the responsibilities that will be heaped on you and the sub par work conditions.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees from time to time, most of them are hard-working, intelligent people that have had much better jobs prior to the recent economic decline. Morale is not a four letter word.

Hope you like getting treated like crap

    Technical Support (Current Employee)
    Austin, TX

    Pros-Has benefits, albeit poor ones

Cons-No one ever knows what's going on. Employees are told a few days before Christmas Eve that they all have to work, even though they were told previously that work was optional that day. No managers can verify for sure what is going on.

-Have to ask for a day off 2 months on advance and usually don't get it.

-If you miss even one day and don't have a Dr's note they count it against you. Anyone who misses more than three days within six months without a Dr's note will be fired immediately.

-Harte Hanks has terrible call times and is constantly threatening to fire everyone, even though they offer terrible training, managers who have no idea what their employees are doing, slow computers, and customer service agents who refuse to take transferred calls.

-No real bathroom breaks. We are told they we get 15 minute bathroom breaks but the time counts against employee ratings, so you don't go to the bathroom without paying a price.

    Advice to Senior Management-Fewer managers

-Give employees holidays off or at least tell them far in advance if they have to work

-Give sick days instead of counting hours against employees and always threatening to fire everyone

    Job to nowhere

Tier I Technical Support (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

    ProsDecent training
Gain experience working for globally recognizable companies (not Harte-Hanks since work is performed on behalf of other large companies).

    ConsLimited mobility internally
Salary not commensurate with experience or comparable to local wages.
Company will hire anyone based on minimal criteria

Advice to Senior ManagementRunning technical support isn't like running a customer service call center. Technical support is incident-based, not call volume based.

Good place to gain initial project management experience

    Billing Manager (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsMy co-workers were the best and I made good friends and valuable networking connections among them.

ConsThere needs to be consistency in management training.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe executive management would improve the company vastly by implementing the principles in the book, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. Employees are people, not numbers and happy employees are productive & successful members of any organization.

Only if your very desperate for job....Good training to learn call center survival but not a career.

    Fedex Agent (Current Employee)
    Austin, TX

    ProsGood medical and dental.
    3 weeks PTO.
    Gay friendly.
Taco Truck 5 days a week onsite breakfast and lunch.

    ConsTerrible equipment
    Oppressive management
    No room for advancement
Massive Firings over 6 in one week
    Meat Grinder call center mentality
When they bring in new training classes they always fire to make new room for the new hires.
Employee bathrooms are disgusting as it seems they even fire their custodial staff every 6 months or so...
Security guards walk the isles and look for reasons to turn a worker in.

Advice to Senior ManagementLay off the cheap perks...Snow Cone Day..Nacho Day....Instead make bonuses easier to obtain. Renegotiate your contracts so that your workers do not feel as if they are in a sweat shop call center.
