I worked at Harvard Management Company as an intern

    Pros

Company is all united under mission of working for Harvard
Great people, everyone is friendly and willing to help
Not political, people are not cutthroat
Learn a lot from different managers as Harvard is often a prime target for investment firms to source capital

    Cons

Quiet firm, people don't talk a lot, not a strong office culture
    Pay could be better

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, and hire more young talent to move up in the company

    Pros

There are many smart people to network with and learn from at HMC. You will be challenged but it is definitely an extremely good company to work for. Teams all work together very closely to solve problems. Exposure to the finance world yet much more laid back than a typical hedge fund or such given the endowment style of investing

    Cons

Most of the work is back office, and may lack upward mobility in the company. However, definitely a great company to work for and learn from.

  7. Conservative Finance Company with a Positive, Non-Profit Flavor

    Pros

Amazing compensation package, beautiful office, good work/life balance

    Cons

Very conservative, no room for creativity, promotions based on tenure, not performance.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees based on their performance, not how long they have worked at the company.

I worked at Harvard Management Company

    Pros

Benefits, opportunities to learn, decent office culture, compensation

    Cons

My team was fine but long hours. Promotions as slow. HR seems to be two faced, occasionally rude.

    Pros

HMC is a great company with smart but yet humble people, and very stable. They really reward high performers and consistently payout on their bonus opportunities. The are competitive on salary, have a really great downtown location, and very strong leadership. The whole place knows who they are, and why their job is important. You can't find a more dedicated group of professionals.

    Cons

Some of their long term employees are bit still stuck in a time warp longing for the 1990s. Workload was a bit high when I was there.

    Advice to Management

    Stay the course.. It's working.

    Pros

HMC is an amazing platform with lots of resources and opportunity, if you take initiative. People are very friendly and you can't beat the work/life balance.

    Cons

Groups are more siloed than I would have expected, though everyone is open and helpful so it seems it does not have to be this way.
