    Hospitality Department

    Waitress (Former Employee)
    Leeds, England (UK)

ProsOther staff were great and really easy to get on with. They were a very close knit team and often planned to do stuff outside work with one another. The company encourage moving up and about into different departments within the company with positions available only for staff already working within Harvey Nichols. Also great discount!

ConsSometimes I felt pushed into doing extra hours but apart from that not much else.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Nice to be part of, but work was dull.

    Sales Assistant (Former Employee)
    Leeds, England (UK)

ProsStaff discount is pretty pointless as things still aren't affordable. No other pros worth mentioning other than occasional celeb spotting.

ConsBoring work - not given much to do as had to always look availabale to help customers. Pretty sleazy environment to work in.

Good benefits but pales in comparison to the competition

    Sales Advisor (Former Employee)
    London, England (UK)

    ProsGreat benefits and intensives.
The staff are supportive of each other, fun and genuine characters.

    ConsAwful for career progression.
Little to no training is provided or available to staff.
Management seem to genuinely care very little about the store or staff.
The company is no where close to the standard of it's competitors and does very little to change it's situation.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo invest in it's staff and their development and progression.

A great yet tiring 5 months.

    Sales Assistant (Former Employee)
    Birmingham, England (UK)

ProsGreat company to work for, an hour (unpaid) lunch break is great to have and relatively rare in the industry, great staff discount too.

ConsDays are long, and during the particular period in which I worked at the store, due to understaffing issues I was regularly doing the workload of two people for no extra remuneration.

Advice to Senior ManagementPerhaps try and be a bit more flexible with staff working hours.

Poor leadership, no communication, bad company for career focused people, good for people with no expectations and drive

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prossome nice people, personalities, long term staff (although massive disadvantages),

Consnot for career focused people, no development, no trainings, no communication, no leadership, no leadership presence, and countless more issues, no expectations on anyone, no meetings, no follow up, no interest of management

Advice to Senior Managementchange the Senior management into a younger minded managers

Looks good on the Outside but Fake on the inside

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chiswick, England (UK)

ProsBig company to work for with a big name so very good to have on your CV. There is also a nice atmosphere between some of the staff.

ConsYou are expected to be at their back and call 24/7, Some of their management will try their best to humiliate you in front of everyone and make you feel like crap. And worst of all they will give you inhuman and impossible targets to reach or even worse your own manager will invent a story on you and then pay you to leave the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure that your line managers know how to manage those people their are managing and make it appoint they do not discriminate against others and favour people from their team purposely creating clashes within the team.

ProsUpscale fashion/ lifestyle department store, staff sale discounts are reasonable. Colleagues are professional and hours reasonable.

ConsLimited eating options as Knightsbridge site is posh. Extra hours are sometimes needed, but not often.

    Not worth the hype

    Sales Assistant (Former Employee)
    London, England (UK)

    ProsGood discount and flexible shifts.
30 % off full priced 20 % off sale items (bare in mind Harvey Nichols is a Luxury department store, you will still spend a lot)

ConsManagement are not very nice, probably the worst company I have ever worked for.
HR do not tell you what you can and cannot wear. All they say is that it has to be black and you have to wear tights with everything (if you are a girl)

Unlike their competitor Harrods; they do not tell you what kind of shoes you can and can not wear, if you need to wear make up and if so how much.
All of these are things you can get sent home for not having done correctly. I even saw one guy get sent home for having a crease in his shirt. They could have sent him down to alterations to have this ironed (it wasn't even noticeable, they like to pick at everything).
