I worked at Hastings Entertainment (More than a year)

    Cons

Management treats you like a disposable trashbag

I worked at Hastings Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Employee discount is great and the store sells a lot of really cool items.

    Cons

Except for a few department managers and the store manager, there are no full time positions. Employees can't work more than 28.5 hours and the hours scheduled fluctuate so much that it's hard for employees to work a second job. Company has a Manager in Training program, where they hire potential Store Managers and have them work in a store learning how to run a store in addition to basically being the Assistant Manager at the same time. As far as being a Store Manager, you never get two days off in a row and many Store Managers only get 1 1/2 days off a week. Burn out is high and so is the firing rate.

    Advice to Management

Give management a real work/life balance by having 2 days off in a row. Also, provide a living wage to employees.

I have been working at Hastings Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The discount is great if you get enough hours to pay for anything.

    Cons

Management both corporate and in-store is horrible. Corporate only cares about numbers and can give two hoots about employees. They are constantly on the store managers behind about everything therefore the store manager wants a perfect store in order to save his tail from being fired which decreases employee morale by so much. Nothings ever good enough for corporate. Also, they reward you with a cup if you dedicate a year of your life to them. Don't ask for a raise though.

    Advice to Management

You know there's this saying I heard a while back, it goes "Take care of your employees and they'll take care of you." Maybe they should print this on the corporate manuals.

I worked at Hastings Entertainment part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount on Electronics and books, very cool.

    Cons

Terrible pay (about 25 cents over minimum wage, and even then you'll have to fight hard for a raise let alone keep it). Incredibly over worked and under payed staff. Terrible manager, has no idea what is going on with employees.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees better if you expect more work output, get better control over schedules, On multiple occasions I would show up to work only to get yelled at because someone didn't know I was scheduled to come in, or someone who had scheduled me to come In or cover a shift apparently want supposed to (extreme breakdown in communication) even after schedules were checked by "manager".

I have been working at Hastings Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun work environment. Always changing. Advancement opportunities available. The discount is pretty great too! Up to 75% off some items!

    Cons

The company does not have the best ethics. Not good pay for seasoned employees unless you want to enter in to management and are willing to relocate!

    Advice to Management

    Value the "little people" more

I have been working at Hastings Entertainment part-time

    Pros

Time goes by quickly. Fast paced, but what will keep you there are the people. You will fall in love with the people there and you won't want to leave after a while.

    Cons

Sometimes the place can be filled with drama and can be distracting. Sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed. Nothing that can't be handled, though.

    Advice to Management

I don't believe in giving advice to management. Things will be run the way they will be run, and they were hired on to do their job. I don't have the right to tell them how to do things.

    Pros

Fun environment to begin with. Now has new management.

    Cons

Favorites were played among employees. Store manager was extremely unprofessional. She bad-mouthed and made fun of other employees and customers to employees and at times in front of customers. She showed up whenever she felt like it, and left early the majority of the time. Worked there for almost two years and never moved from the front of the store.

I have been working at Hastings Entertainment (More than a year)

    Pros

Hastings loves to promote within, is an expanding and growing company, and a great place to work.

    Cons

The few times I have received raises, though for exceptional performance, had a very low maximum amount. A two percent raise is a slap in the face to someone that is constantly getting the job done.
