    Pros

The pay is great and Benefits.

    Cons

You are not allowed time off for your own personal health. You have to train new employees who have a higher title than you with no compensation, your are sent to work in offices where your not qualified. Management will tell your not allowed to have a full lunch and there are no breaks for Nursing crew. I was train by KMC in Lihue. After 8 yrs. I resined to attend school . I have been reapplying and wAs told I'm not qualified. ( worked in the Float pool) Now Unqualified MA's are using you as ginnie pigs. I was told after giving my notice that if I didn't give a 3 week notice that they would make sure I could never work a cross the island chain. There a lot of prejudice. Many physicians are having affairs with there nurses. The married physicians have there wife's apply under there married name and work in the same office, OR. There is no discretion .

    Advice to Management

Firer the Management at Kauai Medical Clinic, Get some real enthusiastic RN's in there that are not afraid to lend a hand when there is shortage. Send someone from corporate to evaluate Management and see if they know what Hippa is and all procedures required in each office. They need to put the pencil down and eval the staff themselves instead of making everyone tell on each other. A thousand screaming people can't be wrong.

    Pros

Good salary and nice people. There is an understanding that there needs to be a work/life balance but you will often need to remind your managers about that.

    Cons

The departments need reorganization. When an employee leaves, there is no system in place to cover that persons work and it normally get dropped on someone else. Also not a lot of upward movement available.

    Advice to Management

    More work-life balance.

    Pros

Medical staff is very professional and great to work with. Centrally located near downtown Honolulu without the congestion of the downtown traffic and parking headaches.

    Cons

Administrative leadership does not recognize nor respect professional quality and is more concerned about risk management and catering to third party payors and nursing unions.

    Advice to Management

Empower all of your physicians, not just the CMO

    Pros

Independence, accountability, top management interest and oversight, own hours, everyone treated as professionals.

    Cons

too much work and too few people.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to do some jobs based on workload as quantified. Be kinder on schedules given resource constraints.

    Pros

I used to be a staff CRNA at Straub (the facility that is a part of Hawaii Pacific Health, advertising this job) along with about 15 other CRNAs. A new department chairman was hired and had a vision for an all MD anesthesia department; made life miserable and all CRNAs eventually quit. That individual is no longer the chairman and the interim chairman is trying to change the culture.

    Cons

The upper management and surgeons supported the new anesthesia department chair's tactics of creating a miserable work environment ultimately leading to all the CRNAs quitting. It was a super micromanaged work environment; CRNAs do NOT have privileges for lines and regional. This facility is slightly backwards regarding their view on CRNA practice.
