    Pros

Hays is a meritocratic business that offers genuine fast track career progression to high performing individuals. It is an exceptional place to work, that has training, learning and development at the heart of the business. The company genuinely cares about's it's employees and the opportunities are unlimited.

    Cons

In a commission driven environment the hours can be long, however expectations are managed well.

    Advice to Management

There is "no one size fits all" and we need to be quicker to adapt to change to stay ahead of the competition. The greater flexibility and autonomy the more empowered everyone will be. We need to review the pay of our staff and offer longer term incentive plans.

    Pros

We have clear targets for promotion and will always encourage and support people to achieve their best. The teams are rewarded both by personal commission but also team incentives which means that there is a high perfomance culture within the offices that I have worked in. Hays has a clear set of values and has clear communication from board level about the direction of the business and the plan for the future.

    Cons

Sometimes work/life balance can be a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your staff, sometimes the best ideas come from those at ground level.

    Pros

Hays is meritocracy who reward their employees based on their performance and this has certainly done me well throughout my career with them to date. I have also been given the opportunity to relocate to Australia and then back to the UK with full relocation assistance and support of all managers and Directors. Hays management celebrate our successes with us and encourage and inspire us to keep hitting new goals. The tools we are provided to do our jobs are also industry leading.

    Cons

At Hays, we do work long hours and more could be done to improve our work/life balance. The actual office environment could also be improved as could some dated IT hardware we use!

    Advice to Management

Invest in what makes an immediate impact on what we do and where we do it. We have industry leading brand and IT software but not the working environment or hardware to make the most of it.

    Pros

    People are fantastic.
    Training is excellent.
Culture rewards success, but ultimately management actively want everyone to succeed so the help and support is there if you need it.
Noone is in a senior position without merit

    Cons

The nature of recruitment means you work extremely hard, this isn't unique to Hays and I wouldn't want to recruit anywhere else.

    Advice to Management

There is a need to be less fearful in clearing out the dead wood. Recruitment is always going to have high turnover of staff, and this means huge hiring activity. Inevitably some deadwood gets hired and they just waste everybody's time and money.

    Pros

Hays has an excellent induction scheme for new starters, giving on going training and support which is continued throughout an employee's Hays career.

There are clear and achievable guidelines for promotion for all fee-earning staff, and the opportunity to be promoted a number of times in the first four years of working at the company.

The commission schemes are purely based on people's individual performance, not team related.

A lot of the Managers within Hays have worked up from being a Recruitment Consultant and so are in touch with daily activities required to be successful, able to help resolve issues quickly and easily because they have experience, and easy to relate to.

    Cons

Recruitment is not an easy job, with long working hours.

The job of a recruitment consultant is not an HR job, it is sales. Therefore it is very target and activity driven and not about getting people back in to work as many people think.
