Pros
Good benefits
Low stress
Work life balance is good
Cons
Lots of old people clogging up the system
Lack of recognition
Poor management
Pros
A good entry level position for someone how is brand new to IT
It's a good place to wait out the job market
They had a really good answer book for their systems
Cons
Working for the ITG Service Center which is the 1st level support area can be best describe as being a teenager working at McDonald's. They treat you as if you are not to be trusted and there is very little in the way or encouragement to innovate or put any sort of effort in to the position. Managers are just there to tell you what you did wrong and threaten you with performance plan or termination. They have no clue on how to mentor anyone. Most people here worry most of time that they will be walked out at a moments notice for some arbitrary rule violation. There is a high turnover rate here. The job itself was pretty easy because it was first level and you had any type of IT experience. It's the management that makes such a horrid place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Get managers who know how to mentor and know how to manage people.
Trust your people to do their jobs.
Stop treating your contractors like children and like adults
Pros
If you believe in our mission to cure the sick, which I do, then you will have the chance to further it.
Great salary...pretty good benefits.
Great downtown location and building.
Cons
If you are in IT, kiss planning for your weekends goodbye...at least personal stuff that is.
Limited training opportunities for IT folks.
Programmers looked down upon as replaceable, nonskilled cogs.
IT upper management are out of their minds when it comes to scheduling work.
This company clearly values Diversity ("special treatment for selected groups") over Excellence. It is sickening.
Advice to Senior Management
"Poorly planning and quickly and forcefully executing" is not the way to run an IT organization.
Pros
Very challenging work with opportunity to become well-versed in health insurance industry. Lots of room to implement improvements in process and technology which opens opportunity for visibility as Senior Management is heavily involved in day-to-day work with all staff.
Cons
too many projects running concurrently with same timelines
stone-age technology
limited test environments
SDLC is not always consistently executed
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce project load ran in parallel or increase staff count and expand test & development environment
Pros
Competetive Benefit package includes pension and 401k.
Cons
Very inconsistent organizational culture ; Performace is valued in some areas and not so much in others.
Advice to Senior Management
Grow Up ; Need to recognize hard workers and difference makers rather than loud mouths
Pros
Pay & Benefits are decent, though I foresee many of those going away once competent management and a culture of accountability are brought in. Company is "member-owned" or another way of saying "we don't care how we spend the money". But this is currently an advantage. If you're half-smart you can skate until you find something better. If this company should ever go public, it would be about 1/20th the size and have 16 less levels of management.
Cons
Performance reviews are a joke. The only way you can get a good one is to kiss up to your management and don't ever make them look bad. Working here is more like babysitting grown children than actually moving the business forward.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to accept the fact that you do not know how to run a business, and in any publicly-owned company you would be a janitor.
Pros
If you want to live at work with a required 20 hours of overtime a week, and if you think your job is more important than your family or your health. Then HCSC is the place for you!
Cons
Every 5 minutes they are changing guidelines on how to process claims. They don't know what in the heck they are doing! When they took over BCBS of Oklahoma everything went to Heck in a hand basket! It is amazing how such a big company as HCSC hires all these cheifs and not enough indians..and the cheifs all all taking 2 hour lunches spending all their time on 4 hour conference calls which are unneccesary! I could go on and on!!
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue! process a few claims or better yet.....try processing 500 claims a day with the guidelines changing every 5 minutes and not allowed to get but 1 error on them. Oh, and on top of that...be constantly harrassed by your bosses that if you dont process the 500 claims a day with only 1 error then you will lose your job! CLASSIC!
Pros
benefits, job security, pay, comraderie
Cons
schedule, advancement opportunity, performance reviews have unreachable goals
Advice to Senior Management
have a meeting with employees to see what can be improved

Cons
it's a changing c ompany- going for the better
Advice to Senior Management
go with what you're doing
Pros

Cons
too much politics and too many high school drop-outs
Advice to Senior Management
