Pros
Good Pay - Good benefits - Stable company with some opportunity for growth and career advancement. Company seems to really value and encourage a diverse work force. Company has its share of dedicated employees. Great location for those that appreciate working in the city.
Cons
Classic case of siloed organization. Different groups within IT do not know what the other teams are doing or how they are impacting them or being affected by them. Ineffective technical architects cause a lot of rework. Ineffective and technically deficient project managers cause missed deadlines and beurocratic supervisors slow down progress. Recent round of layoffs did not eliminate some of the dead weight. Advertised work life balance is non-existent in IT. The expectation is to be at work 8 hours a day, then go home and work some more and be available after hours and on weekends for deployments or to respond to production issues. Not uncommon to be up until the wee hours of the morning during deployment weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
Too much constant overtime and crazy hours can cause employees to lose passion and the company to lose employees, regardless of the "new reality"
