    Pros

Intelligent employees Cutting edge technology Relaxed, work life balance Most of upper-mgmt is helpful

    Cons

Company changed direction several times leading up to the merger with Lexus-Nexus that made for an unpleasant work environment.

I have been working at Health Market Science full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They expect employees to be smart, mature self-starters. If you fit that description, they are really easygoing and trust you to get your work done without micromanaging you or clock-watching. Flexible about hours and working from home. Pretty good benefits for this day and age. If you are good at your job, there will be opportunities to move up. Initial salaries can be competitive if you know what to ask for and can back it up. Interesting software and a lot of great proprietary tools to learn on the job.

    Cons

Raises are tiny, though that's how they are pretty much everywhere these days. If you want more money, you need to move up or move around. Could use more structured training. There is still a some uncertainty after the merger; it's difficult to say what the company will look like in a year.

    Advice to Management

Try not to let us lose the HMS corporate culture as we continue to get absorbed into LexisNexis

I worked at Health Market Science full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible work environment, casual dress

    Cons

Very "intelegent" people with no communication skills or ability to think past the data stack. No concern about the users or about User Interface design. Constant change of direction if any is ever given. Lots of egos, when challenged in a professional manner they often create hostile work environment rather than realize or fix problems/issues. Very clicky, half the company is related to the former CEO. Total chaos.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to do their jobs, take advice from those who are experts at what you've hired them to be. Be more transparent, information is only shared at the last minute and there is never any consensus after meetings....just follow up meetings to debate the decisions from the past meeting. Listen to your employees, MGMT is very secretive and downright respectful.

I worked at Health Market Science full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Laid back atmosphere while maintaining commitment to quality - Good colleagues and helpful management with open door policies - Fun events: holiday themed as well as a yearly employee appreciation outing - BBQ outside - Growing organization within the context of a recent acquisition. - Telecommuting policy (varies by department)

    Cons

    - Compensation is lower than industry standard - Lack of professional mobility - Favoritism/Nepotism sometimes overrides more legitimate qualifications in promotion.

    Advice to Management

    - Invest more in the advancement of employees to avoid professional stagnation and lower morale. - actively encourage employees to learn new things and take on additional responsibility.

I have been working at Health Market Science full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very professional, but low stress atmosphere.

    Cons

No substantial cons at the current moment.

    Advice to Management

Set clear, obtainable goals for employees, to assist in career matriculation and advancement. Practice more adaptable teaching styles for the various products HMS offers. Every one learns differently and the solutions at HMS can be very difficult to understand when new to the company.

I worked at Health Market Science full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Culture is great. Relaxed work environment. Great people to work with and my managers were great. - Health benefits were good and 401k was ok. (now its LexisNexis so benefits are different) - Flexible schedule and many people work from home depending on your position and role. - There is encouragement for personal growth and internal job postings. - Emphasis on technology and innovation. - Great entry level position and great company to get experience in.

    Cons

    - For me, work can be busy, but not challenging enough (I'm sure higher positions are obviously more challenging) - Pay was under 40k, even after promotion and working over 3 years. - Promotions include new title and duties, but not low raises.

    Advice to Management

-Offer more challenging and real growth/learning opportunities for entry level positions. -Continue positive work environment and keep employees fired about work with cutting-edge technology and continue innovation to keep growing.

    Pros

A lot of smart people, sales group is friendly and accessible, benefits are decent for a small company. The CEO is a very nice guy with a positive attitude.

    Cons

Complete lack of communication/disconnect between upper/mid management and contributing employees. I find the place a little claustrophobic, you work very close physically witt the people you work with. Some team members are great and some are difficult to communicate with, but the one constant is that you are on top of each other all day. Instructions are lacking and 'mistakes' are documented and used against you when there are performance questions. However, middle management gives you no indication that there are issues until you are bombarded with them all at once. Overall its a very negative environment where you are afraid to make mistakes. HR is basically there to do the bidding for upper management and 100% toes the company line. Lots of lawsuits after terminations Lots of re orgs and management changes with the same results or worse. They hire a sales VP for a month and then fire him and promote people in the management clique - results do not change. Each years the bookings #s go down and there seems that there is no way to stop the slide.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more effectively, provide feedback ,and use positive reinforcement.

I worked at Health Market Science full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some good and creative people though many of the best leave frustrated, some managers willing to find new offerings, easy to hide inside

    Cons

Environment seems "toxic" (most employees eat alone lunch at their desk), not much camaraderie; work location in a wasteland; CEO been there too long with no results and inability to make profit; company serves too many sub-segments in healthcare - hard to know what they really do that isn't a commodity - unfocused

    Advice to Management

Need better 401K plan, move the office to somewhere pleasant to work and make it fun, look hard at executive contribution

I worked at Health Market Science full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

After working here get the following: Stress Stress Stress The company vision is blurred as they are not forseeing the feature. The product is not sellable.

    Cons

Low-ball offers, low pay, but good health benefit. No leadership opportunities. Politically motivated teams dragging in different directions trying to seek attention resulting in redundant solutions.

    Advice to Management

Unstructured approach to projects. Big data is failing and useless data and analytics. Every solution are point solution and not scalable. No possibility for growth
