Pigeon-holed if you want to advance an actual career with one company

    Medicare (Current Employee)
    Woodland Hills, CA

ProsThe pay is usually very competitive with the other health insurance companies in the area. Usually people leave Health Net for a promotion with another health insurance company, but then come back to Health Net for the pay. Salaries are usually increased by 3% each year, depending on the quality of your work.

ConsDepending on the department you work in, it can be very stressful working conditions, working a lot of overtime (nights and weekends) and working with VERY stringent deadlines. It can be very difficult to move up within the company unless you don't mind moving to another department all together outside of your career goals/field. The company structures their departments in tiers and you can't move up to the next tier unless someone currently in the position leaves the company/department. You can feel pigeon-holed if you want to advance an actual career with the company.

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Glad its over

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Tigard, OR

ProsGood severance package. Very good, transparent communication about the decision to eliminate my division.

ConsGlass ceiling still exist. Needed to know someone to get a promotion. Although the outsourcing process was explained well, it was still a very stressful process and they couldnt have picked a worse time to move American jobs out of the country

Helpful coworkers most of the time
Always room for growth though some positions are harder to get into than others

    ConsOutdated technology

It has been good working in my department.

    Underwriter II (Current Employee)
    Woodland Hills, CA

ProsThe team that I work with has been great. My dept interacts very well with each other. I think this company is great for someone starting out in their career.

ConsThe pay could obviously be a bit better.
Some other departments I heard don't get much recognition for their hard work from their management.

    Reactive, stressful environment

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros- fair salaries
    - low overtime
    - one day each year, an In and Out truck comes in and a band is hired to entertain associates.

Cons- Too many irons in the fire, inadequate resources applied to ensure success.
    - Extremely slow to respond to pain points across the enterprise.
    - Focus is on deadlines rather than planning and executing effective strategies.
    - ***** Complete lack of accountability.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on stability and low-risk initiatives, then PLAN for them. Understand that deliverable deadlines based solely on need rarely produce quality, coherency or brand awareness.
