    Pros

    Generally a good place to work and people are friendly.

    Cons

    HSG is a very siloed company and sometimes it is hard to get things done. When working with different teams, many times it is like you are working for a different company.

    lots of opportunity for motivated individuals; laid-back work environment; flexible schedules for those who demonstrate ability to achieve;

    Cons

    growth has missed projections for past few years resulting in feelings of uncertainty; too many work groups that do not communicate with each other; lack of top-down vision for strategic growth

    Advice to Management

    COMMUNICATE! it's not enough to tell us things are rosey one-a-quarter when that does not correlate to reality... everyone should be held accountable and kept informed, particularly when it comes to workstreams that impact the entire organization

    Pros

    The culture, the challenge, the investment in professional development and training. This is a place where you can build your skills and xperience and feel like you have contributed. This is a place that will actively push to grow and help you get to the next professional level.

    Cons

    The firm and its associates have high expectations. They strive for excellence and expect it from others. If you want to just show up and be recognized for that then this is not the place for you.

    Pros

    Very relaxed work environment, flexible schedule, ability to work from home, great associates(!)

    good career development plan, fair perfromance evaluations

    Cons

    location! pay is poor across the board

    HR and mgmt lie about bonus and promotion

    work is boring, allows for little input or variety

    Advice to Management

    You solicit feedback from associates but DO NOT USE IT! The implementation of processes tends to be half-hearted and training, at least amoung analysts and below is non-existent.

    Pros

    Casual work environment; smart people; interesting work; flexible

    Cons

    Research directors are extremely difficult to work with; the RD's are very quick to write people off and just can't work well with others, although the RD's are smart though. For a small company lack of communication among services.

    Advice to Management

    The managing director needs to remove the research directors from managing people; they are great with the clients, but they just treat internal colleagues horribly. Don't be so quick to kick people out may want to start by kicking those RD's out that will never chnage!

    Pros

    Well run, solid and competent leadership, very fair "safe harbor" plan for employees. Very casual environment i.e., can wear jeans and take your dog to work.
    Very talented and intelligent staff.

    Cons

    A bit quick to let some people go...
    Latitude for the "learning curve" could be lengthened.
    A lean small boutique firm

    Advice to Management

    Strong leadership, could improve some communications between principals however.
    Keep the quality benefits especially the "Safe Harbor" plan for employees, with no period of vestment, this is a great benefit.

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Relaxed work environment (depending on the department) while being challenging
    Not too far from New Hope which is beautiful if you can stick around after work

    Cons

    Building is located near a sewage treatment plant.
    Upper management has little knowledge about how a consulting firm should grow as many of them have a Pharmaceutical background.
    Many people get promoted due to seniority and not ability.
    There are people in management roles who know very little about how to manage people.

    Advice to Management

    Hire outside people for management and board level positions who can inject the company with new ideas. And once they present those ideas, don't just say that you are willing to change; get out of the way and let them make those changes.

    Pros

    Casual environment, can be fun depending on your colleagues, interesting work, great clients, and decent compensation and benefits for its size.

    Cons

    It's not for everybody. You have to be able to accept feedback well, develop your skills without a highly structured training program, and build relationships throughout the company.

    Advice to Management

    As the company grows, don't lose sight of why it was successful in its early days - delivering what clients want.
