Pros
Huge organization. Opportunities to transfer to other states if you chose. Peer group is okay to work with and really want to do a good job and meet companies expectations. Senior Leaders more focused on volume and so there can be conflict between meeting clinical vs volume goals which creates a strained working relationship between the two areas.
Cons
Needs more technical abilities on the adminstrative side. More investment is made in rehab equipment, but other areas lag in technology.
Pros
This job is good for people who are looking for PRN or part-time positions. If you are PRN you only work as needed.
Cons
If you are a lower level worker such as a staff nurse, tech, etc you will definitely be under paid and over worked no doubt about it. Management is well aware of how they are treating their staff but do you think they care? If you think they do you better think again? The professionalism at the HealthSouth I worked at in Huntsville, AL was almost the worst I've ever seen. The managers and supervisors talked to other staff about you and other co-workers. The managers build rivalry between co-workers. The Nurse/patient ratio and nurse tech ratio is extremely high compared to the acuity of the patients. Nurses you definitely put your license on the line at this facility so be very careful.
Advice to Senior Management
Please do not just ask for suggestions and when you get the suggestions your answer is there is no way we can do this or change this. If you know you can't change anything then don’t ask for suggestions. Please treat all employees fairly and with respect. Think about your staff and the workload that is given to them.
Pros
Benefits- best health benefits around.
Support from supervisors and colleagues.
Professionalism and respect.
PTO- very fair on number of PTO days awarded.
Name recognition of Healthsouth.
Cons
Training could be better, less on crm software.
Advice to Senior Management
Training could be improved for services/products, seems it's all about the crm software.
Pros
Prides in the clinical services, good reputation, thus easy to market
Cons
unprofessional, selfish, petty and weak senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
Ceo needs to be more connected to this location. Ceo is spread too thin and is afraid to make decisions that he feels will be unpopular. Needs to be stronger leader.
Pros
technology
good people to work with
flexible
Cons
salary
difficult to advance in pay
Pros
The nursing staff is incredible. They work tirelessly and focus on quality patient care. Not only do they care for their patients and the patients' families, they are very considerate toward each other. As a tech I had more patients than the nurses, and yet they would take the time to help me out with the morning care. I have seen a diverse range of clinical settings and I must say the staff at Healthsouth are the ones you'd want to work with.
Cons
They recently switched to having four staff nurses in the morning shift and two techs, which means as a tech you might have up to ten patients, and you have to get them all up by 8-9ish for breakfast. A great feat when a lot of them are stroke, spinal cord injury patients.
However, like I said, the staff work together and we tend to get things done despite how hectic mornings usually are.
Advice to Senior Management
The nurse leadership at Healthsouth is topnotch. I honestly have nothing negative to say. The nurse chief supervisor, the supervisors, are all extremely considerate toward their staff, while maintain a firm, knowledgeable grip on the doings of all patients. Impressive doesn't cover it.
Pros
The honor of being able to care for patients and make a difference in the lives of others.
Cons
The Bottom line is more important than the people working for them. Miromanaged. Empowerment of the nurses as professional is not allowed. They do not respect nurses as professionals and do not encourage critical thinking and independent thought. That is why they cannot attract professional well educated RNs.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the nurses. Just because nurses do not bring in the money like the rehab staff; remember people are admitted to hospitals for nursing care. Without nurses you do not exist. You want to retain well qualified and educated nurses, treat them like professionals. Allow them to have a voice. Listen to them and respect them. I encourage all Levels of management to read "its your ship". Use Capt Michael Abrashoff from USN leadership approach and you will turn this company around. Profits will sore and retention of staff will increase drastically.
Pros
Good benefits, enjoy seeing patients improve after terrible circumstances. Good internal trainings on many topics of interest, worked with some very talented people.
Cons
Biased, orchestrated advancement for selected few. If an employee is not part of the "IN" crowd that is friendly with local upper management, there is little chance of advancement. Lots of cross training but in the end, used for the immediate needs of the facilities and then relieved of duty when one is not needed any more. Very disappointing
Advice to Senior Management
Be fair and unbiased, don't discriminate or pass judgement of staff. Too many go unrecognized by management, but truly appreciated by the important ones---Patients. Very sad. Mr. Grinney does not see what really happens at the facilities, announced visits hide true scenario.
Pros
large company financially stable good medical health benefits could be used as steppingstone to
better position with another company in same industry
Cons
more concerned about profits than employees high turnover what they say and what they do
are very different as concerning honesty and corporate culture.
Advice to Senior Management
clean house of the management team leftover from previous times of dubious practices and unethical behavior leopards do not change their spots
Pros
great benefits-start the same day you do
you are there to help patients and that is a joy to do
Cons
some of the nurses are not very team oriented
with those that do not work in the same positions as they do
Advice to Senior Management
treat all employees the same
consider every employee important and an asset to your company
listen to the suggestions given by said employees
