I worked at Healthcare Parking Systems of America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I loved working with the patients at St. Lukes hospital. There was always something to do and lots of cars to park. I loved being able to work with people as a team and independently all at the same time.

    Cons

I wish the employees received benefits. There was a very high turnover and it seemed like every time you meet someone they wouldn't last more than 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When their is a situation going on make sure that it gets handled in the proper manner.

    Pros

Work well with your schedule and have flexible hours for students looking for part time job. Great supervisors who help out with things outside of work if needed.

    Cons

At my location tips were pooled which is bad when people slack and are still getting the same exact amount as you.

I worked at Healthcare Parking Systems of America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

While at HPSA I enjoyed building relationships with the various patients and visitors that would frequent the hospital. The job was also very flexible for when I needed time off.

    Cons

The manager I worked for rarely enforced or followed any of the companies rules or procedures concerning personal conduct of employees. As a site supervisor It was expected of me to maintain order and assure that company standards were met. Instead I was regularly faced with a culture of lawlessness as the other valets soon realized there was no consequences to their actions. Incidents ranged from: swearing at/insulting customers, solicitation of drugs, frequent lateness, pornography in the workplace, and poor personal hygiene/appearance. The final straw was when the manager incorrectly assigned me the tax rate for the city of Philadelphia even thou I worked in Allentown. After asking immediate management, district management, and emailing the accounting department, HPSA still never fixed my tax issue. This issue went on for two months before I finally quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I find it hard to believe that a company like HPSA would tolerate this kind of behavior. Unfortunately the site and district managers were both in on it and I had to leave. My advice would be to provide a clear means of communication for lower level employees to communicate with upper level management. That way lower levels of management cannot keep hiding their skeletons in the closet.

I worked at Healthcare Parking Systems of America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I really enjoyed working closely with the valets, local management and national executives. A very unique business model - which provided critical customer service to local hospitals. It certainly jump-started my career and provided some good experiences.

    Cons

It's a hard job - lots of early hours, but to me the payoff was challenging ourselves to better our service to patients and learn as much as possible from the hospitals and HPSA. Additionally, if you are lucky enough to get a good location... the tips are good as a valet (considering the small amount of time you spend parking and delivering a car).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training - we used to have a training guy that traveled around and provide orientations and service standards workshops. He left the comapny and training seemed to taper off after that. Revamp the uniforms. Lastly, maybe a yearly service contest for top employees with the reward being the ability to gather and network at a HPSA conference?

    Pros

Flexible schedule, fit for a school job.

    Cons

Pay is low, a lot of running.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should pay more attention to details of what is going on at each location. Playing by the books doesn't always work in this industry. Customized assistance and procedures tend to work more efficiently. Not every hospital is the same.
