    An honest review: Look elsewhere

    Sales (Former Employee)

ProsDiscounts on magazine subscriptions, decent time off allowance, OK benefits

ConsHIGH TURNOVER at Hearst Newspapers!!! In the sales department, the revenue goals are constantly changing. There is no structure - random numbers are just picked from the sky. Compensation is also changing every other month, making goals unattainable, therefore, you may no money. Management spends too much time on meaningless training tactics, and they expect you to be out of the office 90% of the time when there are no resources available to be able to spend that much time away from your desk.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed a complete overhaul of staff and management. You need to create a more positive atmosphere, so people actually want to work there.

    Interesting

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsGood work flexibility
    Owned by Hearst Corp

    ConsLow quality product offerings
No back end rep support or investment
Horrible lack of respect for sales people

Advice to Senior ManagementGo get an MBA so you can at least seem intelligent. Also realize that sales people are the only revenue generators in any given organization, you should treat them like gold.

    Fashion Editorial Intern

Fashion Editorial Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsGot to rub elbows with some of the most important people in the fashion/media industry. Opportunity to learn a lot if you took the initiative. Felt helpful to the production of the magazine even if the work I did as an intern was considered "grunt" work.

ConsNot for someone who isn't willing to do "grunt" work, run errand, or start from the bottom. Long hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementHearst claims it has an internship "program", but I didn't experience any form of structure while I was there. Perhaps the program has improved since I left.

    Great internship at Hearst Treasury

ConsNot that I could think of.
