    Wonderful place to work

    Staff Nurse (Current Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsGood team work, understanding team leader, excellent place for career development, lot of opportunities to excel in your career, very good benefits, motivational to do your best.

ConsToo much focus on competition. You are either in or out. No place for complainers. You are always on your toes to do your best. At times it is stressful as you have to hold on to your job unless you are ready to drive or relocate to somewhere else out of Saint Joseph.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Big dreams, but leadership has been disappointing

    Care Management (Current Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsGood benefits, good pay. Heartland is leading the way in care management and community outreach. They are well prepared for the changes in healthcare laws. Heartland does well with community partnerships.

ConsPoor leadership. Expectations are set beyond what is possible with the tools provided to staff; this leads to low moral.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your workforce.

    Exceptional care overworked employees

    Case Management (Current Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsGreat care- care givers are determined on best possible outcomes. The pay is good for Saint Joseph standards but well below Kansas City wages. The hospital and most of the clinics are top notch facilities.

ConsLow pay for the hardest working employees. Middle management and nurses runs business aspects of the organization that they are not trained to handle. Too much group think mentality.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce middle management - clinic managers, team leaders etc... Clinics should ultimately be ran by providers.

ProsFellow employees were knowledgeable willing to work together for the better good of the Medical Center

ConsRequired many long hours of work >8 hours /day to complete the work load.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlways listen to the employees, both pro and con, and be willing to change the method of accomplishing the various tasks and work loads.

Love the culture and direction this organization is going!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThis organization is on the cutting edge of technology, Medicare reimbursement, and compassion based health care. The company is positioned to ADD not CUT jobs like every other hospital in this nation. I love working here and seeing the amazing changes the organization is implementing. The patient surveys speak for themselves with many in the 98th percentile. Amazing culture that gets better every day.

ConsHUGE change, which some people do not like. If you are not passionate about people and are not a truly caring individual please do not apply here, you will not like it.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work! Please continue to eliminate and transform bad HEART behaviors. We are behind you all the way!

    Evolving culture, decent benefits

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosgood benefits, free personal trainers, free flu shots, new company culture that focuses on the experience for patients and employees, expanding health care company in a time that healthcare is going through radical changes

Consno maternity benefits, no child care, difficult to get your foot in the door with your first position, small town location

Advice to Senior ManagementIt takes time for new culture to "stick"...continue to develop the culture that you want to see and eventually it will happen

This Institution's reputation in the Marion Community is Accurate!!

    PRN (Former Employee)
    Marion, IL

ProsBeautiful facility and great medical equipment.

ConsER dept. has a serious attitude problem. The nurses 50% of them go through the motions and are not compassionate! ER are docs are a joke! Would prefer to hire entry level personal to keep operating budget down. Parent co. in TN. cares only about bottom line.

Advice to Senior ManagementAsk yourself why is the reputation of this facility sub-standard. Take a closer look at some of your staff.

Management top heavy / slow decision making process and constantly changing goals

    Physical Therapy (Current Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsThe company does have decent health insurance and available resources to improve one's health and work toward health goals.

Conssalaries for hourly professionals tend to be in the bottom 10% compared to the median salary for a profession according to labor statistics.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you truely desire to become the employer of choice adjust your hourly employee wages to be more in line with national statistics. The hourly employee is the face of your company and if the public sees frustration, worry, stress, and exhaustion what kind of an image do you think they will have?

Heartland has great benefits but so-so company to work for.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsHeartland provides great benefits and personal time off (PTO) builds quickly.

ConsBig separation between normal employees and higher paid staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employees when they have reasonable ideas and suggestion. Don't just brush them off

    Very good to employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Saint Joseph, MO

ProsThe company treats employees fairly. Pays well with above average benefits. Gets employees involved and keeps them in the loop. When eliminating positions, does their best to find another job in the company. Excellent wellness programs for employees.

ConsSome of the people in positions of authority are just impossible to work for. Human Resources is woefully ineffective, at least for internal customers.

Advice to Senior ManagementSelectively prune ineffective and abusive managers.
