I have been working at Heartware (more than 5 years)

    Pros

great product, great pipeline. smart people. CEO is good, in touch. transparent with customers and does listen to end users. still new company so not a lot of paperwork or red tape.

    Cons

company at risk due to negative culture. HR is understaffed. lack of corporate training programs. very silo'd with upper management directing. Senior managers need to go. a lot of unhappy team members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

take the corp tempature and then listen. promote for the right reasons and not out of fear of losing people.

I worked at Heartware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good technology that is about it. Wall street loves them, or at least it did.

    Cons

many 483's and now a warning letter. Quality Department Lacks leadership. Has been lacking for many years. I don't understand why the CEO allows this to continue. The only explanation is he doesn't know or doesn't care. Either one is bad. Morale is poor and most of management doesn't care, probably because of hefty stock options for them and with most of them being clueless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the right people on the bus. Integrity is needed throughout the organization. Integrity is Sadly lacking, probably because of the large stock options given to the management "team" I believe the Top dog integrity is good, but it seems to stop at the next level down. Also need some Teamwork throughout the organization, not the bickering and back stabbing that goes on. Departments firing flaming arrows at other departments. I thought the battle was against the competition, not the other departments.

    Pros

Manufacturer of leading edge technology, fast growing

    Cons

Too many shortcuts and high risks, too many cliques, considering such a small company, some groups like RND and Manufacturing were not aligned with each other. Company went through several rough financial periods-even closing down. Poor Management and unethical activities. High employee turn-over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the right thing, FDA readiness, train Management, HR and align.

I have been working at Heartware

    Pros

The technology of the company has many interesting challenges for an engineer. The company is built on top of a top-notch product which is doing very well in the clinical world, saving many patients lives.

    Cons

There is still a lot of disorganization and weird decisions being taken. There should be a better program to reward employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to market is critical. Pay attention to what your employees say. It's important to not lose focus on the important things.
