  1. Stable, great pay, benefits. Do your homework on the culture there first.

    Pros

Great salary, good benefits. Extremely stable company and industry.

    Cons

Non existent team building. Rifts between exempt and non exempt employees. Hayward is, well, Hayward. Didn't feel management was being honest. At times environment felt toxic.

    The corporate culture was stodgy.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees a bit more. Might help create a better work environment. Invest a little more in enhancing the culture.

    Pros

More overtime than you will ever want to work.
Racked up a lot of airline/hotel points.
They allow you to use sick time to take care of sick family members.

    Cons

Management preaches to be professional, but none of them are.
Compensation is weak for the amount they get from you.
    Work long hours.
Required to work weekends and holiday.
Required to work any shift around the clock.
If new be prepared to be treated horribly for a few years. No one likes new guys and they don't hide it.

    Pros

There is only one upside to working at Heat and Control, job security.

    Cons

Unfortunately there are many downsides to working at Heat and Control. They are not flexible with work hours if you are studying or have children. You have to let the manager know before you're going to be sick. When there are tradeshows you are required to work weekends with no compensation. When you do a great job you are not recognized by your manager. There is no communication between managers and the owner of the company. As a project manager its a very dissatisfying place to work.

    Advice to Management

Come out of your office once in a while and talk to your team instead of hiding behind your computer and emails. When you are upset don't go to your employees desk and start screaming at them, there is no benefit to that. Be more flexible with people and their work hours, you can't require exempt employees to arrive exactly at 8am if we're 10 minutes late, its not fair to everyone since there is no consistency throughout the company. You cannot hold taking vacation against your employees when performance reviews come around, if we do a good job we should get increases.

    Pros

    Quick, entrepreneurial thinking
    Good benefits
    Decent pay

    Cons

Top mgmt (family members) are egotistical, arrogant and often irrational. Frequent quote from the president "I own the company"....which he uses as an explanation for his entitled behavior. There is a big double standard between what the owners expect from employees and what they model for employees. Corporate culture sucks basically.

    Advice to Management

Act more like professional business people and less like spoiled children

    Pros

Family owned. You're not just a number like at a publicly traded, corporate giant
Great people. Good place to start your career. If you don't make mistakes or don't make them very often, you may be able to work here your entire career

    Cons

I've used the same old computer since I started here. It's old and slow and others are getting new computers. They seem to be behind in replacing equipment. IT Dept. is slow to respond sometimes. HR Dept is a nightmare

    Advice to Management

I would like there to be opportunities to associate with my co-workers in non-work settings such as a company functions like Christmas parties, company picnics, and other events. However, the company no longer offers these
