    Pros

The work-life balance is fairly decent and the exposure to many c-level is great compared to many other recruiting firms in the industry.

    Cons

The leadership structure in the Chicago area branch is lacking. Many talented young recruiters have moved on the other firms in the area.

    Pros

Salary was good; even during weak economies. Do your job well and you will be compensated nicely for it. A few good folks there.

    Cons

Bad attitudes; very cliquish; if you're not kissing important peoples' butts, you're considered a pariah; management didn't seem to care - acted as if they did, but when it came down to it, they'd throw you under the bus if it benefited them or their agenda.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start really listening to people; take the rules and apply them to each and every one. Don't pit the group together as a whole when something is being done incorrectly. Go directly to that person and take care of the matter - grow some!! If one person is allowed to do something, then everyone else should be able to do so too.

    Pros

Strong team culture that plays at the very top of its game. Client focused with a high level of quality and ethics. The executive placement experts find leaders who are as distinctive as the organizations they serve. They build deep relationships with the world’s most talented individuals to ultimately build winning executive leadership teams for premier organizations around the globe. Clients seek the firms counsel before, during and after periods of significant transition. This is where H&S operate at their best. They design executive leadership strategies that will help companies adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving global business landscape.

    Cons

You need to be passionate about what you do, its a full time job with much work taking place outside normal working hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work

    Pros

Smart folks deliver a lot of excellent client work in spite of a culture where the consultants often exhibit signs of superiority.

    Cons

The backbone of the company -- its customer relationship management system (CRM) -- is built upon Salesforce.com software that hampers productivity. It works great for the back-office accounting side of the business but not on the client-facing side. Internal IT department is trying to fix the implementation with customized band-aids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

New CEO helping to get the company back on course in spite of a lackluster board.

    Pros

Friendly, great brand that still opens doors, great new CEO

    Cons

Very poor training and development, lack of leadership at a practice level, lack of accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This business is resilient. Despite going through some very difficult times, mostly down to a period of very poor executive leadership, the business does seem to be on the up. Imagine if we listened to our own advice and put structure development programmes for the most talented as well as general training to give everyone the impression the business was watching and aware of your hard work and equally keen to invest in you to make you better. That would be a great place to work. Maybe this might mean our best people would stop leaving.
