I have been working at Hein & Associates

    Pros

The company really takes care of you and try to help you advance in your career. Managers, Senior Managers and even Partners are your mentors and you learn a lot from them, since you are not scare of asking questions and discuss topics. They listen to you if you have an idea and will incorporate that on the next engagement. As well the company has a really fun culture in which everyone helps each other and a great work/life balance. They provide you with free snacks in the break room and they sponsor various events such as Happy Hours or organizations that you want to be involved. The company is growing fast, creating a lot of opportunities in the near future.

    Cons

Compare to BIG 4 it will take longer to become a manager, after senior you are promoted to supervisor and then manager.
The clients are smaller than BIG 4 mostly private clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture is nice, try to keep that as the firm grows. Would be great to have bigger clients.

    Pros

A lot of happy hours, PTO is decent, pay is good compared to big four

    Cons

    work-life balance, high employee turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Hein & Associates full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The culture at Hein is nice and the tone at the top is okay. The employees are cool but its public accounting. The Busy season is not really busy season but I am accustom to larger clients

    Cons

The clients tend to be smaller clients and you will work 2 to 3 weeks on a clients and move on to the next client. In turn would cause you to have 2 to 3 clients overlapping

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communication and better compensation

I worked at Hein & Associates as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    Office in DT Houston is nice, entertaining. Supposed to treat people well. a work/life balance if your work does not involve travel. Flexibility for experienced workers;

    Cons

A CPA firm with seasonal workers tries to be in BAS - Process and Cloud Technologies consulting, is lacking knowledge and respect in this department. Racist comments are heard in their jokes; sexism is seen obvious towards female co-workers. There are certain idiots' aggressiveness that is not tolerable. Not a nurturing or growing environment. Project-based resources and politics. The main focus is not their employees, but what they can get more out of clients and current markets.

I worked at Hein & Associates

    Pros

A fast paced environment...but the people make it completely doable. And they take VERY good care of their employees.

    Cons

Tax time is brutal...but to be expected at an accounting firm.

  10. Lacking Integrity

I have been working at Hein & Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Promises, promises... The firm talks a good game to get you interested and in the door - plenty of opportunities, career-growth potential, how to get on the partner track, etc.

    Cons

Integrity is the cornerstone of the accounting profession. The partners in this firm do not stand behind the commitments to their people. If I were a potential client, I'd think twice about getting into a business relationship with Hein. They treat their people like dirt, reneging on agreements - and then wonder why trust is an issue in the firm. Despite being a hugely profitable firm, they're scrooge-like when it comes to salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that if you tell someone you're supporting them in their career, they're counting on that both personally and professionally.

I worked at Hein & Associates

    Pros

Established and recognized firm in downtown Denver.

    Cons

Bad management and low balled on salary for a entry level marketing position. What should have been around $50k annually was $41k. Sad, sad, sad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For marketers provide higher base salary.
