    Pros

Work from home option; ergonomic furniture; free fruit and coffee all day; many lunch and breakfast functions, and great benefits.

    Cons

Administrative Assistant positions come with "golden handcuffs."

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Look into training programs to keep employees at the cutting edge

    Pros

Solid benefits, good location in Loop, decent culture despite niche oriented

    Cons

Progressive compensation approach (minimal spread based on performance) + below market pay, tenure based career advancement vs performance, no incentive to work harder, bureaucratic efficiency, minimal training besides IT programs

    Advice to Management

Depending on fund or project, one can spend 75 hours a week at work versus 40 hours by someone who works on another fund. The pay is effectively the same at the end of the year.

    Pros

You work with a lot of great people, benefits are great, bonuses are awesome and great exposure to the real estate industry.

    Cons

There are cliques, there is no formal training and your bonuses and goals are very clear.

    Advice to Management

    Improve communications

    Pros

You can learn a lot from the many intelligent professionals that work at Heitman. The culture is fairly laid back, work/life balance is valued as well as working hard and producing great results.

    Cons

Your work load is completely up to luck-of-the-draw based on what fund you are placed on (Investor Accounting), however compensation is the same across the board.

    Advice to Management

    Compensation should reflect work-loads.

    Pros

Heitman is a great company to start or continue your real estate investment career. Good work/life balance, although at times you are asked to work late hours as expected with any investment company. Management cares about their employees and makes sure everyone is happy. There is the ability to move around to different departments once you gain experience.

    Cons

Sometime the work can be repetitive. Smaller company so you are unable to move up unless some leaves or the company grows.

    Advice to Management

Give employees better direction on their career path

    Pros

Benefits are decent. People are mostly nice. They have a mentor system which is nice to meet people when you start. Annual bonus. CEO supposedly rose from the mail room all the way to the top.

    Cons

If you're not an accountant, you are mostly ostracized socially. 3 years, no raise, no promotion even after being promised. Promotion from junior role was blocked with made up excuses despite high praise from managers. Some management has no business being in an IT department.

    Advice to Management

Understand that with increased responsibility should come an increase in pay or title at some point. Neglecting employee's career ambitions forces people to leave.

    Pros

access to resources, quality assets, commitment to clients

    Cons

its all gossip all the time, structure leads to unfair compensation, unbalanced work delegation/responsibilities

    Advice to Management

They need to start structuring the firm so work balances are reasonably equitable among the same positions within departments and similarly for compensation.
