I worked at Helac Corp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The people are the best, they are like a family and try to help and care for each other

    Cons

three complete administration changes in less than three years and they continued to get less knowledgeable and less connected with what was happening with the staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people that have been there and done it for decades. Give some opportunities to the in-house group and stop thinking the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

I have been working at Helac Corp

    Pros

The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. Until recently, we had a 4-10 work week.

    Cons

Management is inept and ineffective. They are wrapped up in appearence, rather than profitability.
We have become too "top heavy" with made up positions that dont add value to our work force.
Hypocracy isnt even covered up in front of staff and I feel it has led to an overall demoralization.
We need to be recognized as a all inclusive manufacturer, not an assembly plant. We make our own parts, we dont purchase them from an outside supplier like Genie or Toyota does.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trim the fat and keep the cream. We've all seen what Blue can do.......and its not close to enough.

Management does not know what needs to be done!

I have been working at Helac Corp

    Pros

Rural setting that is easy to get to. Employees are friendly and most are hard working and dedicated to their job.

    Cons

The new top management even after three years has not figured out how to fix delivery issues and determine the best approach to increase sales.

The distributor sales strategy has failed miserably with very little incremental sales shown for the effort.

Employees are not treated well or respected for the effort, knowledge and insight.

    Communications are mediocre.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If your sales revenue is not back to 2008 levels, then the approach you are taking is wrong.

Listen to people who know this business and what makes it different from other fluid power companies that sell a less engineered product.

    Monday AM "bonus program"

    I worked at Helac Corp

    Pros

It is very close to small town living. If you can stay away from management and focus on work, then it can be OK...

    Cons

Management couldn't have less respect for anyone they interact with. They're so overly entitled, they actually take advantage of any opportunity to manipulate their employees, that it's done out in the open.
It was an open "joke" - even with a senior VP that the bonus program is the "Monday Morning Bonus". In other words no matter how great you do in general or how amazing a specific achievement was, you're lucky to come back to work on Monday.
Employee achievement is actually DENIED so that there aren't any grounds for recognition or compensation.
One of the ironic considerations is that the people- management included are very nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Disrespect by management is so deliberate and profound, I can't imagine "advice" would even be taken seriously. " In My Mind", is the only place reality exists.

I have been working at Helac Corp

    Pros

    Work schedule is 4-10hr shifts
    Reasonable benefits.
Low traffic area so the commute is good.

    Cons

Poor scheduling and planning resulting in inconsistent workload.
Upper management surrounds themselves with "Yes Men" who have no clue as to what they are doing.
Disciplinary actions are based more on who you are rather than what you did.
Little to no incentive for advancement.
    Poor training.
    Poor communication at all levels.
    Vindictive lower management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This place could really be a better place to work if management gets a major overhaul including replacing many of them or the rank and file employees need a UNION.

    Cons

Very, very, very ,very careful about any new ideas.

    Restart your training program.
Stop using punishment as the primary means of creating status quo.

I have been working at Helac Corp

    Pros

Located in a rural area that is easy to get to
    Many dedicated and good employees
    Average pay and benefits
    Typical manufacturing environment
Niche products with some growth potential

    Cons

Expect you to work 60 to 70 hours per week with very little praise and recognition. Initially they like all new employees. Then within months all they see in the employees are their weaknesses. If you are looking for job security and a positive place to work, stay away from Helac Corporation.

Long term planning and strategic thinking is missing. Managemnt strength is minimum with too many of them closed minded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quite being so distrusting of your good employees
    Start thinking strategically
Realize that the attachment division will never be main stream
