Current Employee - Staff (At Technical Region, Outside Athens) in Thessaloníki (Greece)

I have been working at Hellenic Telecommunications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation - OTE Group is the leading telecom provider in Greece. Most safe jobs in the telecom sector in the area.

    Cons

    Far from following meritocracy ethics.
High school graduates promoted to manager positions, leading people with postgraduate studies. Strange behaviors from the first ones to the second ones, due to psychological complexes, maybe because of their inner feeling of being inadequate.
Union Employee Representatives promoted to manager positions (conflict of interest).
Political Government party mechanisms of New Democracy and Pasok have the control of promotion activities, through the Union Employee Representatives. CEO and Senior Management support that ethics, far from the “clean face” they are trying to establish through Media games (advertisement expenditures, etc).
Great levels of distrust. Isolated teams trying to protect their fields, even in the same department.

    Not a professional environment.
Most colleagues smoke in the offices and often blow the fumes in your face (true story). Visible moisture on the walls, buildings not painted inside for years, strange odour in the offices, old furniture full of dust. Toilets not clean and without hygiene paper, lack of warm water even during the winter months. Lack of potable water, which in Greece is a legal obligation for every employer (employees now bring their own water bottles from home).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation - OTE Group is a corrupted organism. Deutsche Telekom will soon have to choose between the two distinct paths. The one of taking real control of the senior management and establishing a new working culture or the other of selling its share and leaving the shareholder scheme.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
