I worked at Helmerich & Payne full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Always have top of the line machinery and equipment. A few great co-workers became like family to me.

    Cons

Safety regulations make it impossible to do the job the right way. There are so many steps involved with safety, you spend more time doing paperwork and JSA than actually doing the work. If you follow the safety procedures, it seems like everyone hates you. If you have a lazy person on your rig, he will be the first to get promoted, simply to get him off of your rig. Then, that person is replaced with another lazy person that came from another rig because they wanted to get rid of him.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplify safety procedures. Some JSA's are a joke and it literally takes an hour to read them. Get to know your crews. Show up to the rigs a little more often so you can know who's doing a good job and who isn't rather than simply going by what your rig manager tells you.

I have been working at Helmerich & Payne

    Pros

The hours are good. AVERAGE 90 hrs. A week. Company truck. Expenses paid. All tools and cloths bought for you. 100,000.00+ a year starting pay. One of the hardest electrical jobs to have. You work on your own..

    Cons

The hours are good. Lots of driving. To much favoritism. On call 24/7. No vacation. Miss out on holidays and family functions. One of the hardest electrical jobs to have.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To much favoritism and the employees don't get treated fairly.

I have been working at Helmerich & Payne as a contractor

    Pros

The company is growing, fast. Lots of good talent in their workforce. Opportunities to grow with the company.

    Cons

Some of their management are very inexperienced and are more focused on personalities rather than personnel assets and creating an accessible, structured environment. Haphazard approach to processes and procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to work with your staff, utilize and develop their strengths. Don't dwell on the little things....focus on the big picture and establish enterprise structures for that growth.
