I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time

    Pros

The pros of working at Helzberg Diamonds in exactly what they stand for. They truly want help the buyer feel like Helzberg is a jewelry store clients can trust. This company is part of GIA (Gemological Institute of America) which is why this store does not raise prices to later on apply 20%, 50% discounts like other retailers may do and in the end the purchaser may pay more even after so many discounts are applied. The pay may be can be great as it depends if you go to a high volume store OR a low volume store. Benefits are great for full timers, you will receive dental, vision, health insurance, paid vacation. If you show productivity you will receive more hours and then again the more you sell the more money in your pocket. You may find a second family

    Cons

The cons of working at Helzberg Diamonds -Some store managers speak about associate's performance behind the associates' s back to other non management associates. This includes comments like, "I will fire him/her", "I think there's something wrong in his/her head", "He/ she is too young", etc. This list can go on with more comments and verbal comments like that. - There may be limited room for growth -Some store managers lie to customers about return policies and diamond quality to avoid returns and get more sales volume. The cons shown above are from the store worked and NOT about all the stores of the company. Helzberg Diamonds can definitely be an amazing company to work for as I worked for a manager in the past that preached values like honesty which is exactly what Helzberg Diamonds stands for. This manager made sure the store always had a friendly competition as it is commissioned based while also making goals for the store.

    Advice to Management

-The first thing they teach you at Helzberg is the 8 Step of Selling. The first step is PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), comments like the ones shown above definitely put anyone's PMA very low therefore you will have an associate that does not perform numbers. -As a manager be part of the team, be a leader, don't just stay behind the scenes. If you want your team to sell big, show them you can sell big as well by being honest to your customers and employees.

    Pros

Nice discount on merchandise That's about it. Merchandise is priced too high, you only get a deal at Christmas time fyi

    Cons

Low pay= pressure to sell, sell -to get commission No training at all. People steal sales, people look the other way. Regional manager doesn't care about any issues. Horrible work environment, stay away

    Advice to Management

Train your employees, every store needs someone to take care of the office. Fix the computer system- takes way too long to do simple tasks. Upper management needs a rude awakening . Horrible

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. Hourly pay plus commissions and bonuses based on store performance. Professional work environment. Getting to help people celebrate special occasions makes this is a fun job.

    Cons

It does require nights, weekends and holidays, but that's also why it's so flexible. Expectations are high. You do have a sales target and held accountable for achieving several metrics.

    Advice to Management

Encourage team work and cultivate a positive environment. Happy employees are more productive and customers can tell when the team works well together.

    Pros

Had some great sales people, but unfortunately lost them all due to poor management and corporate not reprimanding management.

    Cons

Managers are lazy and unethical. Sit back and have underpaid sales and office associates deal with companies lack of customer service, poorly done repairs and overall poor service. Merchandise is low quality diamonds and has only worsened over the years. Stores interior appearance can't stand up to other competitors. Often hours are documented that managers are working when they clearly are not. Management spends time dealing with personal issues continuously, while on the clock.

    Advice to Management

Think about what kind of people you are placing in yours stores to manage as well as the regionals that are overseeing their progress. Watch security that's in place to oversee the day to day operations.

I have been working at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most other employees have been great, str manager has had a hard time finding good people that last but those who are there and have stayed are fantastic.

    Cons

Str manager found out assistant is leaving was going to promote from within (promised the role) then hired from outside and has it promised to the new person without an update to the one it was originally promised to. Rude and unfair.

    Advice to Management

Do not base EVERYTHING on numbers, especially when a lot of the malls are not that busy any longer. Higher commissions with better goals. All the goals that are current are far fetched and just too unrealistic. I would also make it mandatory to hire/promote from within.
