I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools

    Pros

The administrator really love students and wants them to do well. Helpful colleaques, and staff are friendly.

    Cons

Like every school we have our share of teachers who do not love students. Paper work really gets in the way of instruction at times, and the communication skills of administration is not servant leadership, which I prefer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with staff faculty before you decide to move them, at least make them think they were part of the process.

I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools

    Pros

No micromanagement from the top down to the individual schools. Usually there's some flexibilities in how schools and classrooms can modify the assignment to improve conditions at the school level.

    Cons

The system is 10-20 years behind current methods and practices when it's involving technology and resources to assist the teachers and students daily. Usually, decisions are made to save money and not invest it in the children and teachers. At this date, progress monitoring on the students are done with outdated xerox papers when ten years ago a neighboring county had palm pilots and a computerized system to collect the data.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since textbooks aren't being purchased, and technology for the students/teachers are not adequate, it would be nice to see funds diverted back to the students/classrooms.

    Henry County School

I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools

    Pros

One thing about Henry County Schools is that they are constantly looking for ways to make teaching better. Leadership seems to be very supportive of the teachers.

    Cons

The pay is a little lower than some of the other districts that are closer to downtown Atlanta. In most buildings, it is hard to get cell phone reception.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the software programs used for education should be piloted and reviewed more thoroughly before purchasing them.

    Pros

Good people working within the schools. Not as hectic as the bigger districts. Out of the city but not too far.

    Cons

Out of the city but just too far if you really want to take advantage of Atlanta city life. Changing with every whim from the top, trying to prove they're doing something about education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't keep blaming the teachers and don't keep changing the system. Let the teachers teach so the shildren can learn and develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skill.

I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Henry County Schools is good school district with many opportunities for professional growth in the education field. I fyou have a love for teaching, then this district will be great to get a start in!

    Cons

Many school districts have a local supplement for their employees. Henry County does not have this supplement. Furlough days are work days that you end up working at the end of the school year.

I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Provides some flexibility in schedule for your workday, especially if you have children in school.

    Cons

The expectations and responsibilities are very high for the paltry salary paid for this work. Likewise, the disrespect shown by parents and the county government for these hard-working individuals is a real crime.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The extremely high turn-over in employees will continue until pay is commensurate with responsibility and expectations.

I have been working at Henry County (Georgia) Schools full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Wonderful community to work in.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations of what teachers can accomplish in the classrooms. Unpaid overtime required to meet expectations. Parents are not supporting teachers and administrators by holding their children accountable for their action/inactions. Furlough days, no pay raises in 7 years, increased cost of health/dental insurance coverage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly listen to the teachers and administrators about the real issues w/o penalizing them and collaborate with them to find workable solutions.
