Pros
Its a nice place to work and the people are pleasant. The benefits are pretty decent although like most places, you pay more and more for health coverage, and less and less is covered.
Cons
The starting salaries aren't very high, and you will have a hard time getting an increase.
Pros
Benefits are excellent. People I work immediately with are wonderful.
Cons
No room for advancement. Very small pay increases. Management is a joke...very male chauvinist attitudes. Been there over 10 years and have 3 degrees and I am as far as I am going. The supervision doesn't even have college degrees, not even an A.S.
Advice to Senior Management
Would they care about our feedback? I think not...
Pros
Great managers, they care about you and will go to bat for you as best they can. Benefits are really good, they never took away the 401(k) match, which even our Fidelity rep said was high. Premiums for benefits are going up but it's good coverage.
Cons
Managers have way too much on their plates and are given very few options o how to reward good employees. Somehow office politics are accepted as normal even though it effects the day-to-day work in the office and with surrounding branches. Your managers may appreciate you but in the end, to corporate you are just a number. They don't care about you as a person, and will do whatever is most convenient/easy for the rather than what may be best in the long term.
Oh, and don't mention if you intend to start a family any time in the future, it's career advancement suicide.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop accepting politics as normal, do something about it. Politics can and will tear apart an office (think how many coworkers of specific people have moved on/left the company after dealing with them).
To corporate, you talk a good talk but your walk sucks. You don't pay any attention to non-sales people who work in the branches and it trickles down to every employee trained. You hog-tie your workers by focusing so strongly on sales. Try following the Disney model and make it about the experience, quality and service in addition to sales. You have some great pieces in place but they aren't being used effectively.
Pros
Great benefits, people are nice, good cafeteria, free breakfast occasionally, community programs to join in on, clean office & parking lot
Cons
Worked to the bone, calls are non stop all day, attendance/ tardiness point system, little advancement, favoritism, commission taxed 42%
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more on quality and not quantity on sales calls and don't treat employees like little kids or make them feel they always have to rush
Pros
Compensated for working hard. You will get from it what you put in. Not micromanaged.
Cons
100% commission, but if you're a go-getter, that's a pro instead of a con.
Pros
Flexibility to accomplish work without much oversight. Caring company with fair-minded team members. company invested in seeing that you have work life balance.
Cons
The compensation structure could be more aggressive. The company could better use resources and technology to arm their team members to perform duties.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to provide forum for team members to share issues and ideas to make improvements. The company should invest more in advertising.
Pros
Excellent Benefits. Good stepping Stone to other Medical Careers
Cons
Middle management are all clones. There is NO room for opinion.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees; they have a better grasp of what the customer wants and needs!
Pros
Great products, Sales promotions, specials, due to international size of company. Lots of training.
Cons
Watch out! Like to motivate by creating internal competition & chaos. Will not fire due to legal concerns, so will cut draws, split territories, hire new, to push someone out. "Good old boys network" when it comes to mgmt. If you disagree or raise your hand, you are done. Your #'s better be good every qtr, evry yr. Have pushed good people out after many solid yrs. Lots of hidden chargebacks to sales person. If you are going to work here, dot your i's & cross t's because promises never materialize.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop protecting mgmt! Way to many managers! You are not to big to fail. Get back to small company business basics.
Pros
It is a Fortune 500 company
It is located in Melville, Long Island, wich is a relatively quiet town
The building is superbly clean and equiped with state-of-the-art facilities
Cons
Office politics is high
The level of hypocrasy is unbelievalbe and even repugnant
Most employees do not know what their position entails, so they don't know what they are doing. They are more inclined to blame other employees behind close door.
Upper management does not clearly state a new employee's performance in order to guide the new employee, but just lets go of the employee
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to the new employee about their performance. State what the Management likes and dislikes about their performance.
Decrease the level of office politics.
Stop being hypocrits. You have power, so be candid with new employees.
Listen to what a new employee has to say to improve business strategy
Do not fire an employee with no explanation
Pros
The only Pro to Henry Schein are the healthcare benefits....other than that...NOTHING!
Cons
Although Henry Schein has grown on the Fortune 500 list over the past 4 years..it is at the expense of their employees and even sales people.
The company is only concerned with growth at any expense. They do not care about employees or turnover. They are masters at creating internal competiton among their sales people as well.
The Zone Technology Managers that should be helping you sell more are only there to send you a monthly score card of where you are in sales. They think that sales should be closed equally over a 12 month calendar year..hello??? has any one ever heard of sales cycles???
Their plan is to hire as many field reps as possible with no set territory and let everyone fight for sales amongst themselves. Don't even get started on E4D....management thinks that pounding on the DTS's will bring E4D sales...when they have not given any quota to the FSC's!! How stupid is that??
Now they charge the sales people when a doctor uses a credit card! That is just pathetic...Talk about nickle and diming the sales people to death.
The first opportunity I get to work for a competitior to Schein ....you better believe I am going to do it...
DON'T WORK FOR THIS COMPANY !!!! YOU WILL LIVE TO REGRET IT!!
Advice to Senior Management
Stop trying to grow at any cost...and revise your "Team Schein" motto because it is a complete and utter insult!
