    Pros

No out of pocket costs for health care premiums - paid entirely by the company. Stock ownership once you attain Project Engineer or higher so end of year payouts are nice. If you like to travel, then this is a company for you.

    Cons

Long hours and if you're efficient in getting your work done in an eight hour day, the managers make you feel guilty for leaving before others in the office. They will move you at a moments notice so family life will be constantly on the go. Women will take about twice as long as the men in the company to get promotions - if ever. Women will also be told to hold off having families so they can concentrate on their careers. Men, however, are encouraged to quickly get married (usually to the office admin) and have a family. Apparently, it helps them focus on their careers.

I have been working at Hensel Phelps Construction full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A lot of the people here are extremely smart. You will run into a few that are off but for the most part a lot are spot on. If you can survive at least 2 years with Hensel Phelps, You are practically employable everywhere. Because everyone know that Hensel Phelps people are well trained.

    Cons

Its not good for a family lifestyle. Financially, you will be just above broke but if you can stick it out for a few year, I think it would be worth it. Also if you can play within the "Good ol' boy" system, then this is the company just for you. Lastly, Hensel Phelps is known for great training just not good leadership. A lot of the higher ups were fast tracked through the system because so many people were quitting and getting fired. Therefore they lack some of the experience in there current job descriptions and have refused to train there replacement because they have developed the mentality of every man for themselves. So I could see where if use to be a family environment but that is diminishing quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In some cases, they will move you with a promotional bribe. In some cases, it a remote location. If you can survive with this ideal in mind then this is a great company for you to work for. However if you decline there offer to move you, they will treat you like the redheaded step child from that day forward. So its great for single people just not families.

I worked at Hensel Phelps Construction full-time

    Pros

    Strong family atmosphere.
Detailed training program and a tailored career track for whatever direction you choose to go.
    Strong emphasis on mentorship.

    Cons

Compensation remains fairly the same for the first few years.
Employees work very long hours not leaving much for a work-life balance.
Employee owned company so new employees are in a strong competition among fellow coworkers. The whole experience made me feel like a number instead of a name.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to take care of all of your employees, no matter how new they may be to the company.
