I worked at Herb Chambers part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hard working, down-to-earth, community friendly and fun family environment to work in!

    Cons

You can only change yourself, not others. Take responsibility and make sure your head is in the game.

    Advice to Management

When two employees style of communication and learning are so very different, that they are not on the same page it creates issues. If the issues are not resolved and the pattern continues there is a discrepancy in the work flow. There is no right or wrong way to address this. Suffice it to say, "Too err, is human." C'est la vie.

    Pros

none. The corporate structure of Herb Chambers is a Joke. The management is pathetic and greedy, holding down talented salespeople to protect their own jobs. They do not repair used cars properly. The used car managers steal from the salespeople , allowing for extra repair order money , not using it for repairs, and not putting it back in to the deal.

I worked at Herb Chambers full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits, all of the regular staff are great people. Herb Chambers himself is a great, personable man.

    Cons

You're expendable and they let you know it. You'll be run into the ground and reprimanded if you stand up for yourself. All the perks are awarded to upper management and nothing for the workers, salesmen, technicians, and parts personnel, regardless of the fact that they earned it. Countless excuses as to why you can't have a raise (economy is bad, you have bad CSI, you forgot something small 3 years ago) all the while the management drive brand new, high end luxury cars, sports cars, and SUVs. You will never be rewarded or praised for a job well done, but mess up once and you'll be told you have one foot out the door. And those decent benefits I mentioned in the pros? Those dwindle and disappear constantly.

    Advice to Management

You should all be broomed out and replaced. There's no need for such greed and politics anywhere, let alone in the car business.

I have been working at Herb Chambers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredible team atmosphere. True comradory amongst the employees. Management is always trying to find ways to help each individual improve. Excellent compensation and benefits including 401k. Vacation time and sick time are a benefit as well!

    Cons

The balance of home and work like is a bit tough because it is retail and the dealerships are open 7 days a week in Sales.

    Advice to Management

The Master's of Excellence is an incredible opportunity for the very top performers in BDC and Sales to enjoy a much deserved end of year 5% bonus and an incredible night of entertainment on Herb. The criteria for the BDC is unfortunate because they cannot directly affect it individually so its out of their hands whether they get to partake in such a special part of working for this company. The criteria should have to be met individually as that shows a true champion. They should also bring back contests for outstanding performances in the BDC as those build job/career excitement and help to build great relationships amongst the other dealerships. Employee turnover is lowest when comradory amongst fellow co-workers is highest.
