I have been working at Herschend Entertainment part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Corporate atmosphere encourages employees to stay for their entire career. Many employees have been their multiple decades. This causes a sense of family and this atmosphere extends to everyone in the company.

    Cons

Many positions are seasonal, leaving periods of unemployment or underemployment. The company is aware of the difficulties and helps employees where it can, but it can be difficult to budget for down season times.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Core values for the guest experience are wonderful and they do a wonderful job following through.

    Cons

Although the values for guest experience are all about family, the employees are not treated with the same experience.

I worked at Herschend Entertainment part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Getting to meet some very friendly people in the public and lots of great kids who are having fun.

    Cons

Extremely long hours in the hot sun without being able to sit down (up to 12 hour shifts). Very low pay. Perception of being a fun job, but not so much fun after you get started. Poor, inexperienced supervisors and trainers. Basically a "good ole boy network" management. Lack of respect for professional skills. Profess to have Christian values but don't practice them in reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are gong to stress Christian values then practice them in the way you treat employees who are working for very little pay and long hours.

I have been working at Herschend Entertainment as a contractor for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are good, free entry to many parks in the nation. They offer health and dental, and typically will rehire you if you do your job adequately.

    Cons

Unemployed two months of the year, still high prices for employees to attain health benefits or to eat food on park.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher profit sharing, please. This economy isn't well enough for you to spend $10 mil on a new ride and give employees a less than 2% raise.

    I worked at Herschend Entertainment

    Pros

    Gave off whenever I requested.
    Sometimes provided food/snacks on-site.
You can work a 40+ hour work week in as little as 3-4 days.

    Cons

In training, it was said that employees always had the power to "make it right" with the customers, yet scolds employees who follow this practice.
You can work a 40+ hour work week in as little as 3-4 days.
    Terrible upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You obviously flourish in markets where there is very little competition for tourists to experience your services (Philadelphia, Branson, Seattle, Stone Mountain, Baltimore, etc etc etc). Why not show some effort to truly make your experience enjoyable, rather than 'phoning' it in all the time?

    I worked at Herschend Entertainment

    Pros

Great Support from a excellent organization. Everyone from top to bottom is a class act. Fun enviorment to grow in.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunities to move up organization chart unless potentially willing to relocate to another location depending on position availability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the wonderful work. You are class acts and don't give up the fight to continue in Philadelphia. Good Luck!

    I worked at Herschend Entertainment

    Pros

alot of challenges while working here and learned to deal with difficult personalities, time management, problem solving, & truly learned what not to do as a manager.

The work environment was usually fun and upbeat and upper management tried to keep a positive attitude.

    Cons

Horrible management with rumors, drama, verbal fighting between departments. Had to take our own insurance bc benefits were sad. No promotion or pay options.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove bad management and get better benefits for employees. Your employees are your life line and you need to show them support, praise, and reward.

I have been working at Herschend Entertainment

    Pros

    Cons

Little room for upward mobility. Pay and benefits not as strong as you could get elsewhere, but atmosphere compensates for that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See and be seen--offer words of encouragement, praise more frequently.
