Pros
-Promote from within, great place to start a career.
-Great environment to network and know everyone from field reps to VPs
-Fantastic Benefits
Cons
-Must be willing to move for promotions
Pros
The pay and the benefits structure isn't bad. Its hit or miss in the management arena, really depends on where you are located.
Cons
Nothing is done to hold poor managers accountable. You could end up working for a caveman who isn't familiar with computers and treats you like a secretary with no way up.
Advice to Senior Management
Find other ways to weed out bad managers who don't grow people, they know how to trick you and probably did it at other companies.
Pros
- Company name looks great on a resume
- Lots of interesting initiatives and diverse departments
- Seemingly a lot of opportunity (on the surface)
- Decent manager/immediate supervisor
- Decent work/life balance
- Good sense of corporate social responsibility
Cons
- Was hired for one job and ended up doing something completely different (and well below my skill level) with no opportunity for advancement, learning, or movement into the job I was hired to do (it doesn't really exist)
- Expertise (which I was hired for) not respected and consistently questioned (not sure why they hired me if they didn't think I was the expert they wanted)
- Restructuring seems to happen on a daily basis (company-wide restructuring, changes in departments, and management)
- Bureaucratic
- Favoritism for opportunities
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure you know what you want when you hire someone and don't pull bait and switches with job opportunities.
Pros
- Friendly people
- Low to Medium stress levels
Cons
- Too formal at times.
- Tools are not very up-to-date.
- Onboarding is a long & painful process.
Advice to Senior Management
Interns need to be placed into the position they were accepted for. Many specific positions were posted yet interns were shuffled around far too often once employed.
Pros
The oppurtunity to advance if you get a fair competent District Manager. Company Vehicle is a plus too.
Cons
All and all you are a glorified merchandiser and will be stocking up grocery stores. Very physical work.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop turning the other cheek! There are some horrible District Managers in the South western areas. Human Resources attention Please!
Pros
Great collaborative cross functional peer group.
Cons
Some poor senior managers in critical roles.
Key errors made by HR throughout my tenure (start, middle, and finish).
Advice to Senior Management
Collaborate with your cross functional peer group.
Pros
This pros truly depend on the district you are a part of and who your manager is.
Cons
You do not just work from home, you work when you get home. This job requires you to work an 8-10 day in the field and then go home and do 1-2 hours of administration work. If this interest you then this job is perfect for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Care about the employees in the field because they have limited access to leadership in Hershey if something is concerning them.
Pros
Introduction to the food processing industry.
watch processes of candy being made
SAP training with the economic resource planner
Cons
need more formal regular scheduled training
Need a better emphasis on consistency within operations
better communication between corporate and the plant as a whole
Advice to Senior Management
better benefits for non-union plants
Pros
Free candy! Career advancement and benefits
Cons
The city of Hershey isn't very large and lacks the atmosphere of a larger city that is more appealing to young professionals
Advice to Senior Management
Monitor the supply chain and be aware of potential PR issues
Pros
Ability to touch many aspects of the business right out of the gate.
Cons
Small town and relatively long lead times to get things done due to hierarchical nature of Hershey.
