    Opportunity through Achievment!

    Area Manager (Current Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsIt is an absolute breath of fresh air to be employed by a company that promotes based on achievment. Working for Hertz allows the ambitious, results oriented professional to thrive. This culture nutures "Outside of the Box" solution based thinking. The opportunities are abound and obtainable.

ConsContinous Changing of the bonus structure that is already too complicated and at times confusing.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in localized recruiting and a locally based trainers.

    Not what I expected

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

Pros-The job itself is fairly easy

    -Good discount on cars

-Working at the airport you meet some interesting people

Cons-There is no work/life balance. You'll be scheduled for 40 hours off the bat, but then they'll tack on 4 extra hours to almost every day you're scheduled and force you to come in for 8 hours on your days off. I haven't had a day off in over a month and work 70+ hours every week.

-The sales goals are extremely unrealistic and are hit by 20% or less of employees on a monthly basis

-The managers are unforgiving when making the schedule and do not seem to care if you have any personal events going on

-Your job is constantly being threatened by the managers. Their idea of motivation is to let you know you'll be in the unemployment line if you don't step it up. There's no positive reinforcement to speak of, and you're never, EVER congratulated for doing a good job.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being so hypocritical. It's not fair to give someone a hard time about their sales numbers when nobody ever has enough time to recharge their batteries because they're at work all the time. Also, try to act like you care about the employees instead of hanging them out to dry all the time. Lastly, there needs to be more balance in this company. All the managers give themselves nice cushy schedules and work all the regular employees down to the bone. A little more disparity would be great.

Long hard hours, numerous challenges, potential reward.

Senior Location Manager II (Former Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsIf you enjoy a fast paced, competitive environment, where every day presents new challenges, this is the place. Compensation is fair and bonus opportunities abound, quarterly and annually.

ConsThe industry is experiencing the worst economic conditions in its history as it depends on business and discretionary spending through the travel industry. Yes, this can be said for all business and industry at the present, but fleet expence that continues to rise vs.competitive pricing that doesn't support that expence, can't provide a very favorable outlook for managers and employees. Manpower reductions are the principle way that the company has chosen to offset expence.
Long hours and problematic customer service issues will face the location managers, creating a very "reactive" approach to their day. Due to the crisis in the used car market, fleet will age at a pace never seen before resulting in high mileage units that will not meet customer expectations. Bonus calculations are determined by customer satisfaction and profitability metrics, making this a difficult challenge at best.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of those that serve the company and customers on the front line. Understand and reward their creativity daily. Be certain they understand their value in a positive way.
